The irony in these shows lies in the way they try to sell themselves to the audience as female centric but then how is in even possible to deliver a female empowerment massage in an imperial harem setting lol...if the historical drama in question is something like the Red sleeve cuff that actually shows how messy these imbalanced relationships with lots of patriarchy and hierarchy involved would actually have ended, then so be it; but what purpose does it serve if the men suck balls and their wives are supposed to give them "character development" lol

Saw s/o say they didn't expect this screenwriter to write sth like this but then I remembered The royal feast and how the entire premise was basically romanticising the relationship between a royal Prince and palace kitchen maid he took as concubine (he had concubines already lol) during Ming dynasty and as if that wasn't bad enough for me, I also found out concubines and wives would litterally get executed at the time after their king husband d!ed 😭 like idk about othe ppl but I don't find anything interesting enough in this to make it into a romance show lol that would sound like a potential horror thriller history reimagining with a tragic ending to me lmao
