I would love to see BL and GL worlds collide

As long as it's gay, I'm okay with the story. "Straight" media gets to be narrow and all about "straight" identifying people. Stories that are all about gay men and/or women should exist to center the everyday joys and triumphs of the gay experience

"... there's a whole plethora of people from the alphabet soup left out of that"

Because BLs are about men loving men. Not men who identify as women. Not women who identify as men. Not people who identify as non-binary, gender queer or genderless entities. Most of the letters in the alphabet soup are gender identities. Not sexualities. And BLs have no reason to include them

BLs can include asexual men, if that's what you're talking about. An asexual man is capable of forming romantic relationships with men

As if "straight" media isn't the commodification of women or their sexuality

Money has transformed human societies. Everything is commodified, even funerals. The people who have a problem with BLs "commodifying gay men" should ban "straight" media first

"And if they knew there was going to be awkwardness, they shouldn't have acted in a bl. They could've done a straight drama with different female love interests"

I'm not a fan of this all-or-nothing thinking. "Do it right, or don't do it at all" is the type of thinking that fucked me up and interfered with my ability to get things done. I wouldn't wish that on idols

Let them appear in BLs. Less popular idols appearing in gay stories, when they would have made it big in "straight" stories, tells me that they care less about quantity, and more about quality. They knew they would have to survive a homophobic backlash. Their career has only just begun, and they still took a career risk. They had no stable fandoms to support them. The backlash could have gotten out of hand, and they could have lost it all

The BL world should not abandon or disown these brave men. They did what they could, with what they had. And they would have done better, if it weren't for their conservative country that holds them back from reaching their full potential

Speculation is innate to all experience and thinking. And sexuality is seen as a public matter. Idols and non-idols alike are speculated to be "straight" until they come out, for example. It's none of anyone's business who they want to sleep with, but people don't understand that. They want idols to be "straight." Speculations that idols are something other than "straight" shouldn't warrant significant concern

There are "bad" apples, fans who go overboard, in every fandom. Why deny ourselves the joy of BLs, because of those "bad" apples? There would be no drama, movie, game, comic, etc, if producers feared them

Please, don't apologize. English isn't my first language, and I can understand you just fine

It is on its way. You know, Korean culture is very popular among people enchanted with Korean music (Kpop), dramas (Kdrama), movies, fashion, food and beauty standards. A Korean BL, with Kpop idols as male leads, would be a main agent of Korean culture. More people will demand to see their Kpop idols in BLs. Entertainment industries will come to provide diversity and equality as value-added services. The Korean public will become more tolerant of gay people. And the government will have no choice but to recognize gay marriage

That's my prediction

Homophobia is "alive" and well in the Western countries that legalized gay marriage. Most Westerners pee in their diapers every time a fictional character is gay. They cancelled Disney in response to the company’s efforts to add more gay characters. They passed a "Don't Say Gay" bill to ban discussions of sexuality for all students. They sided with bakers who don't design custom wedding cakes for gay couples, etc

Abortion rights are under attack and it's a matter of time before gay marriage rights are

Where there is people, there is homophobia. I would say Korea is homophobic, but they are doing way better than the West

Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Japan are making history. They are the reason gay media picked up and blossomed. With more Korean idols making appearances in BLs, Asia will grow from a regional to a global BL powerhouse that isn't afraid to represent the gay community

Noone asked for your opinion. You're yet another nobody who gets a kick out of putting us or BLs down to feel better about themselves

Don't listen to this person, dear producers. All they do is talk shit about idols and BLs. Then they get triggered…
"All publicity is good publicity"

The only thing worse than being talked about (positively or negatively) is not being talked about. The watered down gay stories are better than nothing. The Korean public talking about the male idols who appeared in BLs is a powerful tool for shaping the cultural understanding of gay people. They are acknowledging our existence. Don't worry, male idols sticking their tongues down each other's throats is where we are headed

"Of course, Zuho is probably gay IRL, like most K-Pop idols, but let's keep pretending otherwise for the sake of Korea's soul"

Why would I pretend otherwise? Most of them are gay IRL. A Korean person who used to work for an agency told me that she saw many idols in gay bars, but she didn't tell me who they were. They have a "don't ask, don't tell" policy

They ARE making a change, even if they don't want to. By making appearances in BLs, they are doing more for the Korean gay community than you ever will

The drama hasn't even aired, and you're talking shit about it. How are you a normal person? The idols are not giving their all NOW. There is such a thing as taking baby steps, and they are taking baby steps

Because they can make a change. They have a fandom. They have influence over the Korean public. A non-idol wouldn't have that influence

You're not minding your business. If you stop BLs, then you'd be SHOVING your anti-gay agenda down our throats and FORCING us to think the way you do. Someone should stop YOU from brainwashing us
