I believe they kept saying in the novel abd the book that this is a new dynadty and after the war the country is poor so they want / including the royals, ti show restrain in spending..this is why even if they change outfits, they are still modest looking compare to other eras...Remember Qiqi made quite an impression at first appearance with that flamboayant red dress and tons of jewellery..

First few episodes are building the background of the FL to understand her character / choices later, since it is not the usual fluffy, delicate and timid heroine.. So bear a little with the village grandmother antics, you will be rewarded later on..
And I envy you, because you will be able to continuously view the episodes, unlike us who are waiting unpatiently for each episode's release !..

I so wish someone will make a drama following the book - much darker, and same time more romantic interests / couples, more handsome male/female characters, more heartbreaking..It may need at least 2 seasons of 40 eps, epic but with the right cast & crew , would be a masterpiece !
Too bad it may never happen, since re-purchasing the rights for it would already cost an enormous amount ..

To reach this level in Korea, who is known for its many dramas and also being wary of Chinese productions, is indeed a great achievement ( which is well deserved by WRTW) @

The last scene: the way she opens her mouth, like wanting to say something, and than just smiles watching him swimming : she is Not in vegetative state, she is in a wheelchair, maybe paralised but fully aware...and by her smile, happy !
