Deng Ying has a more gentle, warm-hearted, and humble type of personality. He is VERY humble, and think very lowly of himself, but he is still so kind to everyone, especially the FL which is why a lot of readers pity him.
Storyline is also very different as this novel focuses more on political struggles in the imperial palace while Gong yu's plot focuses mostly on the investigation on supernatural cases relating to evil spirits.
I just finished reading this, and I have to say I have never seen a male lead like Deng Ying...:( He is too pitiful, but at least he has the fl by his side. It is a happy ending for the main couple with a modern side story as well. I really like the second male lead too! Every scene he has with the female lead has a lot of tension! The novel has a very fate/morality type of feeling.
