Just finished it and WOW! This is one of the best dramas (BL or non-BL) that I've seen in a long time. It is a complex story with complex (and surprisingly realistic) characters. If you're looking for a fluffy, cute boys kind of BL, this is not for you but if you think The Power of the Dog is a good movie, then maybe this is for you
Great review. You managed to encapsulate the key points that makes this such an extraordinary drama. It's a shame that this series targets mainly BL audience. As you said, Nut is a complex multilayered character surprisingly realistic for a "BL fairy tale". The way the series shows his "origins" and then his evolution is something that could appeal to a much larger audience. Anyway, thank you for an excellent well-written review
Pete's dad and Xu Qi Zhang's mother (About Youth). Best role models for parenting
I also like the one in Kiss Me Again when the dad asks them about their relation and Pete gets all riled up and the dad to goes " I didn't say I would stop you from seeing each other" LOL
This thing failed at everything it tried: not outrageous enough to be camp (think Love Next Door 2); not quirky enough to be slapstick (think My Love Mix-Up!); not intelligent enough to be funny (think Bad Buddy); not gentle enough to be endearing (think About Youth). To top it all, a very handsome lead (Nhai) who, half of the time, couldn’t make his face expression match his dialogue.
Verdict: Failed

A little help from any Korean speaker. In ep8, at 3:59 the English subs have Jang Jaeyong saying: "Because of the guy that asked you about my ex-girlfriends, I couldn’t think of anything" but that sentence really doesn't make sense in the context of conversation. Can someone clarify?
Sorry but I'm a bit baffled by comments saying that Ray's cross-dressing is not explained. For me, it was clear. He was trying to please the guy he was dating: (1) The guy's first text says: "Remember to wear the clothes I gave you" which turns out to be a miniskirt, (2) At the cafe, Ray says "I'm wearing the lipstick you gave me", (3) the guy has a girlfriend (or two not sure LOL). So Ray's cross-dressing is because (a) the guy doesn't want to be seen as dating with another man and (b) Ray is prepared to do anything because he wants desperately to have someone (He says to Ye Guang that he envies his black tea angel). Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think there's need for more explanation.
Verdict: Failed
