Title Story of Yanxi Palace Spoiler
I've watched the beginning credits of this drama more than any other I can think of - so many of the scenes are…
It’s not really a story about a heroine though, since there’s not much records about the females in historical documents, the writers tried to make sense of what possibly happened in the life of Consort Ling, they obviously took artistic liberties in order to make a series based on her life with the emperor, we know she didn’t have a sister in the palace so the beginning is completely made up, we know she was trained by Empress Fuca but no records saying she was ever a maid, we know her father worked as a lower rank in the household department and she entered the historical documents as a noble lady, the timing of this show was during the pandemic so I suppose the writers wanted to make something a little more lighthearted, The later parts of this series is actually the closest to Historical facts, I’m saying this because no one knows the real reason why the step empress cut her hair but it makes the most sense according to what is left on records, example, we know that Qianlong did not make any attempts of making The Step Empress’s sons crown princes, we know that he and his mother,The Empress dowager was in talks about making Consort Ling the Imperial Consort Ling before Step Empress cut her hair And we know that one of Ling’s som became the Emperor after Qianlong and we know that he had to have had a great relationship with her because of what the records show of his thoughts about her. This story is really about her while RRLITP for example is based on the empire and The Step Empress with completely baseless reasoning on why she possibly cut her hair and her relationship in the beginning with Qianlong.

No...although i guess they love either until the end? Kind of.
She married the emperor in real life so it doesn’t make sense for her not to marry him in a story about them

the destroyed documentation of her really in line with the legends that said Emperor hated her. Thus how her story…
Yes I also agree about the brilliance of the writers, they really made the in between bits really interesting, I tried watching Ruyi’s Royal love in the palace but I’m struggling to get past episode 2, I saw someone saying they made the Empress evil so now I don’t know if I want to watch it if it’s mostly fiction , i should’ve watched it before this series 😭

Just watched a factual documentary about the characters in this series and a lot of what the series produced was actually factual from Historical documentation, as usual they added some fictional stories for entertainment eg the Step Empress story had to altered as in real life the Emperor had destroyed all documentation of her so I guess some of her story was legendary (speculation based on hearsay)

I’ve now completed and I must admit it took me a few episodes in to really get into it but I’m happy I didn’t abandon this series because it’s so good and now I’m struggling to find something that compares 😅

Why are new born babies with golden eyes killed?
I think they thought it was a curse before they knew about Jaundice in babies, remember when the doctor from outside the palace said it was jaundice the other doctors inside the palace said they’d never seen jaundice in babies before and they thought it was impossible so therefore it seems that they thought it was a curse based on lack of knowledge

I’m on episode 12 and I’m wondering if Xu Kai actually has a role to play or not, he’s hardly in the series so far and when he is, it’s only a few minutes. Getting tired of these repetitive petty scrabbling between these grown ass females.

When I keep saying mentally fragile, I clearly meant that she handles bad news really poorly, if she miscarried again it would potentially break her. I don’t mean she a weak person physically. Losing a child is devastating, losing your parents is devastating for some people more than others. So the No sex option is nowhere even a debate as I’m on about loss via death here.

WTF, seriously, what’s going on with you? Why should no sex be a better option if her vagina is not broken? In this modern day we have the option to use contraceptives in those times they would not have chosen that option as it was only used for life or death purposes, had he chosen to not have sex with her , how would she feel as a woman, as a wife? I’m not exactly sure where the actual series said or portrayed the ml to be perfect, however he is clearly one of the few that actually shows empathy towards others.
Not treated equally??? I’m so confused, he treated her with respect and allowed her to be herself even when he didn’t necessarily like some of her decisions as her Husband, eg. When he asked her if she would not see zitan after he got stabbed and she explained why she thought it would be the right thing for her to see him, ml didn’t argue, he allowed her to do her thing.
When she went to see Helen Zheng twee first time ( remember what he did to her) and she still went to see him, he had the power to actually stop her because she only kept her title as princess at this point because of their marriage . I will not change my views on the reasons for keeping the birth control tea from her because based on the fact that she still was adamant to risk her life to have a baby for him which remember if she dies and the baby survived it’s his responsibility solely ( I’m pretty sure you are not thinking about that) maybe if the doctor told him those options he gave her then maybe I would be in the same page as you but he asked the doctor and the doctor told him there’s no choice, the doctor told her infront of him about the flower tea and said she would still die, only when the doctor saw her alone and she threatened to get a second opinion he told her about acupuncture so heck no I think he did the right thing by secretly giving her birth control because she doesn’t listen to advice anyways.

Ok fine , yiu are clearly watching a historical period drama series but you’re expecting it to have the same morals as we do today. Wow in those times the husbands actually had more power in the relationships and even so it wasn’t about the ml asserting his authority it was about protecting his wife mentally and emotionally regarding a very very sensitive situation, she spoke to him with joy about having kids together, the woman watched her mother whom she’s very close to kill her self and list the baby and you think he should’ve said by the way honey you can’t have kids after your miscarriage. Fir goodnesses sakes she even had to go to the temple to try and strengthen her mind and body. Girl you are as cold as ice, thank goodness I don’t have someone so insensitive in my life.

I think you’re overreacting tbh and as I said no one saw it that way once they knew why, even her brother was ok and understood once he knew the reason and sometimes the translation is different depending on where you are or what translators they use. It’s not deep he loved her and she loved him and she’s pregnant at the end but sadly we don’t get to know wig she lives or die

….i feel like FL has more screen time with general song than with ML…. (Up to ep 26) that’s kind of disappointing…
Maybe the ml actor was working on another film at the same time? Sometimes the actors in demand films more than one projects at the same time, especially these overly long series. I wish we had more of them as well but I still think they did good regardless. Some scenes looked as though the female lead was pregnant in real life, I think she might’ve been pregnant with her second child then and that could be a factor of certain scenes maybe being re-written to suit the narrative without completely destroying it.

It wasn’t poison, I think you misunderstood, it was contraceptive tea😂 remember there was no condom nor contraceptive pills in that time period the doctor was the one that made it not ml he only gave the doctor the ok in prescribing it for her. The doctor was the one that said it was the only method other than no sex.
At no time did fl question or was upset about what he did because she knew it was in her best interest, there is no way she could’ve handled the news of not being able to give birth without serious consequences because of her miscarriage.
He did the same thing not telling her about her father’s death which her own brother also did because the writers wanted us to know that these people knew her well enough and knew how fragile she is. Even the maid understood and admitted that he did it to protect her mental well being

Watching this drama gets me through all kind of emotions and not in a good way.Letting the obvious critic points…
Actually the ml did some really impressive deeds. He took care of the fallen soldiers families that fell into poverty .
He actually had the best interest of the people, he wasn’t greedy nor was he crooked like everyone else in this show. He had empathy towards even his enemies, he could’ve easily taken the throne but it was never his intentions to begin with so even when he had the clear chance he didn’t instead he found a solution for the country to thrive without someone sitting on a throne.
Remember that most of these films have a very shallow meaning.
