LCY in the tv series is just a tip of the iceberg of the character in the novel.

In the novel, LCY is a cold-blooded killer and he is only twenty years old.

Happy 4th Anniversary , 东宫! Hope Maerqima is wandering the grasslands living her best life without Li Chengyin😭Can’t…
I cry every time I watch the scene where XF hysterically begs LCY to stop the soldiers from shooting the arrows at Gu Jian and Ah Du.

Even Pei Zhao cannot bear the scene. LCY's heart is made of stone.

Agree. Xiao Feng is more famous than Princess Fragrance of Xinjiang. The latter never died and lived happily in the Forbidden City until she died.

I’ve always wondered if one of the reasons why Xiao Feng is so memorable is because her story is so heartbreaking.…
XF wanted LCY to feel the loss of his loved ones. That's why she chose suicide. Her suicide was an act of revenge against LCY.

But, she never knew LCY was willing to return her body to Western Liang where she was burried following her death.

This last act for XF is a sign of LCY's love for her. Had he been possessive, XF would have been buried in the imperial mausoleum with him.

Who on earth would wish to be separated in death with his loved one? This gesture proves that LCY was willing to give in for XF for the last time even if he knew he would miss her forever without her presence in his country.

He regretted his actions. This shows he was a human being too. That's why he jumped into the river knowing that it would be the end of his life.

He was willing to die with XF.

In Pei Zhao's side story, LCY was intelligent and diligent. PZ had never seen him lose his mind over a person. That's why the former had an uneasy feeling after seeing LCY and XF laughing at the gerbils knowing the moment of happiness would not last once she had found out about LCY's plan.

LCY had to carry out the plan as a future Emperor who wanted stability but he had to gamble away his own happiness.

Even after they were married, LCY's subsoncious had never forgotten his love for XF. He gradually fell in love with her.

Yes, in the series, LCY was warned by the monk at the temple not to force XF do anything but instead to let things go with the flow.

However, after the massacre, LCY didn't really need XF to cement his status as the Crown Prince of the Li Empire.

When he jumped into the river with her, he said to her that he would like to forget with her about everything that cause her distress.

LCY did truly love XF but each time he assaulted XF, he was LCY, not GXW. GXW would never hurt XF. The time he recovered his memory was the moment XF jumped off the wall. She saw his tears. GXW had returned but it was too late for both. XF's heart had died.

LCY had never been seen crying even when he was little, according to Pei Zhao. But, he cried three times in the novel: the first time he saw Xiao Xue, the cat he gave to XF, after he and XF were saved by Pei Zhao; the last time XF and LCY's eyes met following her suicide attempt; and the scene where Pei Zhao visited him following the death of his only daughter.

A cold-blooded killer doesn't regret about his actions but in LCY's case, he did regret his actions which made him a human and a man who loved his only woman.

Comparing his treatment on ZSS and Xu Bao Lin, it could be concluded LCY's heart had only XF. XBL carried his child but he let ZSS kill it because he had never wanted the child nor the woman. Both mother and child were just nothing to him. He had never visited XBL the day she died from a broken heart.

ZSS was discarded like an old fan once her use by date expired. He let her die although there was a brief moment he was contemplating about his decision. ZSS had harmed XF before so she must die.

Didn't they do a four episode 'reunion' drama?
The Starry Love is OK but is not as good as GBMP. CXX is only suitable to play a cold blooded tyrant, not a lovestruck puppy boy.

He is an excellent actor not to be wasting his time filming pop drama.

LCY was 17 at the time he committed the massacre so he must have toughened up at a very young age.

This shows that he had had a tough time growing up in the palace knowing that the Empress killed his birth mother and his brothers trying to kill him after he became the Crown Prince.

His father was even ruthless than he was.

No, LCY actually loved XF from his heart. He sneaked into her palace in Western Ling to see her in person because he said to Pei Zhao that he wished to see how she looked like after all he was going to marry her one day.

He was stunned by the princess' beauty. When he returned to the army camp, he recalled the bathroom scene which made his ears turning red. He was only 17 at that time.

He was worried XF would not speak to him after he accidentally killed her gerbil and his desperation to win her over shows that he truly loved XF.

When they jumped into the river, he actually said he wished to forget everything with her. He actually regretted his actions but he had to achieve what his destiny required from him ie. to make the Li Empire safer from the Turks.

Even after thirty years following the death of XF, he had never forgotten her and in the end, he chose to jump into his death at the same spot where XF committed suicide by stabbing her heart.

LCY is a cold blooded killer. The murder of the enemy who killed his friend is a statement of LCY's character ie. he uses whatever means he sees fit to achieve his objectives.

But, he is a human after all. He fell in love in XF and even in his amnesia, he can never forget the scene he first time saw XF. Peeping Tom.

His love for XF is deeply embedded in his subconscious.

So sad they dubbed Chen Xingxu. Still, gorgeously made drama that ripped me to shreds.
CXX's real voice is too deep for his character.

He was only 23 when he starred in this series. But, his acting was brilliant for a young actor. Although his character in the drama is completely different from the book.

I prefer LCY in the book as he is portrayed to be a young and carefree man who falls in love for the first time with XF and enjoys a temporary carefree life in Western Liang with the woman he loves until he carries out the masscre of the tribe.

I hope there will be a remake and the storyline follows exactly what is in the book. That will be hard to make but LCY's character has to be as ruthless as it can be in order to bring the character out of the novel into the drama.

LCY's character in the drama is just a tip on the iceberg compared to the one in the book.

Even XF in the book could never forgive him for what he had done to her family.

I can't think of a current actor who can act LCY's character except Huang Xiao Ming and Luo Jin, Hu Ge and Wang Kang . But, they are already past their prime.

Arthur Chen is a possible candidate. And, of course, Chen Xing Xu again. I personally would love to have CXX play this character if there is ever a remake.
