I agree to disagree. One thing we both agree is that she is not as "skilled". However I am saying that her character is supposed to one who should have layered emotions, but I have not seem much of that from Chloe Xie. her acting is good enough, but just not that layered I feel.
She is supposely the only daughter and grew up with incompetent brothers. Her mother is weak willed and sides with her brothers and her father rather than her. She yearns for her father's recognition, so tries hard to succeed. I wouls think under this kind of environment, she would be somone who has more mixed feelings.
I can give you specific examples. So far I only see her oscilating between anger (in most episodes) and sadnees (in Episode 10, after her father arrives and we see a flashback into her background, ), but not much in between.
If you read my comment, I mentioned the Cui famly treats divers harshly, so you are right that they did not manage a virtous pearl farm. Preceisly because of this, people from the family should at least be cunning enough not to just face issues head on, but work on the sly.
The FL's acting is quite brilliant and has a stark difference. You can see in her eyes moments where she is touched, and moments where she is both touched but also is sad because she is reminded of her past. In the episode where Zhang Jin Ran recited a poem and ends of with her verse, you can evidently see Duanwu feels both touched and empathised but sad because she is remidned of her past.
In episode 10, it is clearly stated that the Cui family also owns jewellery stores around the country and in Guangzhou. Shi Jiu should be at least good enough for the father to trust her with the business.
It's definitely believable that she lost to the ML, but even when Duanwu reminded her not to be rash, she went ahead with a bad deal in Episode 10.
Episode 7 :I don't know if Chloe Xie ( Cui Shi Jiu ) will play the main antagonist in this drama.. But how I am…
I’m uncomfortable whenever she’s appears on the screen but for a different reason. It’s partly because she plays the antagonist role, but also how badly this role is written and her acting.
She represents an influential family who has a huge farm of pearl divers who are harshly treated, so she should technically be smart, shrewd and has business acumen. However. she quite stupid, rash and always falls into the ML's traps, and even loses out to Duanwu at times, which is a little illogical, given that Duanwu is so new to the business and is a lot younger.
She always has a permanent angsty look and basucally just glares at people. So far (I am on episode 8), she has not shown any layers in her acting, nor depicted any other feelings other than anger.
I do agree however that she makes the audience dislike her though so her menacing look has the intended effect.
Yeah nah, dropping at the end of ep 2, gut feeling tells me i wouldn't like how the show ends, cause i already…
I disliked the ML as well. Stereotypical Korean drama character. Rude but seemingly self sacrificial, does not know how to love properly, wounded, broke up but still want to be close to the FL.
I got very excited for nothing🤦🏼♀️ .It's a shame that a drama with such a unique story has such a…
I totally agree. The show’s title is Dear Hyeri, but it featured her only for the first few episodes. There was also no explanation for this identity’s sudden disappearance from Eun Ho, as it why she suddenly stopped acting like Hyeri. I think most people were rooting for the second ML. Eun Ho ended up with the ML who behaved like a jerk at times. I dropped the drama midway. Thankfully I did not waste more time watching.
Why tell the audience they are twins? How stupid is this director? They should let the audience be as shocked…
I totally agree. It’s better to cut some stories of the novel and do a short 30 episodes well, than to try to sumarise everything and have a disaster. The 1st Qiu Qianren is just like a comic relief character.
The line that Huang Rong spoke in episode 12 at Tao Hua Dao while pinning for Guo Jing is really cringe and totally out of character. She actually said Hua Zheng and Guo Jing are like eagles while she is a small sparrow. Did I hear wrongly? Huang Rong in the novel is confident, unparalleled in her intelligence and is a matchless beauty. Lovesick? Yes. Envious and Jealous? Yes. Low-self esteem? Come-on, the scripwriters need to be fired.
Well, isn't this whole drama isn't about using the judicial system to get justice anyways. The ML is already using illegal means to bring down the FL by ANY means possible.
The ML could have published via journalists to smear so as to get her approval ratings dropped. ALL voice recordings whether obtained legally or illegally can only be used as circumstantial evidence that has no legal effect.
If he wanted to play by the law, he would not have did his final act of maligning the FL by making her a murder suspect by falling off the cliff...
Had to drop it halfway on the first episode. They are annoyingly preaching Christianity on and on for first 30…
The drama is totally not preaching Christianity. in fact it’s misquoting biblical verses. It’s just using some bible verses symbolically or metaphorically, but obviously not done well and without much purpose.
Some dramas like to quote Buddhist scripture to symbolise good and evil. It’s that kind of context.
The show obviously isn’t preaching Christianity when the characters are so political and ruthless.
The poster is talking about the hospital room. Even if there’s no CCTV, access would definitely be restricted to family members and visitors would have to be accompanied.
There will be guards immediately outside the room, and would be nurses 24/7.
So many other major plot holes. The voice recording of the female lead’s confession to the murder was totally not used by President Park. Neither was the female lead’s video recording of her bribery used against her. it’s like there are so many things he could have used but totally didn’t.
The reviews online saying it’s shallow are quite accurate. The acting by the casts is great. It is thrilling enough, but the narrative is very skin deep and does not touch on much issues. The characters also do not have much background or relationships. It is also full of loopholes.
Park Dong Ho has the recording of the FL’s admission of her murder. Why hasn’t he used it? Or played it to the former First Lady? The script writer seemed to have totally forgotten about it.
The entire assembly were shown the videos of the FL’s bribery of the judges, so the prosecution has them too. Why was she suddenly released just because of a fake diary of her husband?
The entire nation suddenly went on strike because of the FL’s speaking about the fake dairy. Yet Park Dong Ho didn’t release to the public the videos showing the FL bribery of the judges.
The drama is illogical and has so many loopholes . These are just a few examples but the list goes on.
The voters and prosecution also keeps flip-flopping to the point it’s laughable. Overall it’s watchable but not great. It’s carried by the acting of the cast.

I totally agree excerpt I would give it a 6/10. The acting is really bad. The story is somewhat interesting in the beginning, and at least the drama is trying to show a bit of depth by portraying the teens as being human but are a product of the environment or ignorance. It’s a failed teen romance flick anyways but it’s a short 7 episode drama so it’s bearable.
I also disagree that celebrities should be moral compasses. Being accountable is one thing - they should pay for their mistakes as a citizen should, under the law, but they not be made to pay with their career. It’s discounting all the hard work the actor has put in. While it affects the public opinion of them, I don’t think any responsible parent will relegate their parental duties and ask them to model after “celebrities”. The cancel culture in Korea is too strong… it drove an actor to suicide.
I am currently watching it and it has an interesting approach. It is one of the best I’ve seen so far but since…
Although I really quite like and look forward to watching Queen of Tears, and I like both the leads and their acting, objectively, I would say the drama is good, but not exceptional. It’s probably one of the best in months in terms of casting, acting, and interesting enough storyline, but there are the usual tropes and fillers. Some episodes are definitely better than the rest so the pacing is slightly unevenly. Out of 2 episodes per week, usually 1 is a lot better, and the other, especially mid-season, feels like a filler. That said, for a romance genre drama, it’s definitely worth watching and some episodes are quite touching as well, which is rare in the rom-com genre.
the side characters are the best part of this show. I can only like a drama that makes me interested in the side…
If you are referring to support cast I agree. But not those characters that just appear for 2 episodes and then die off. The sub-plot lasts for 5 episodes and then becomes irrelevant.
I don't know if it's a good drama or not because I only understood 50% of the story 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️Im…
This is a martial arts fantasy drama that has nothing to do with the ancient Chinese empire. There are very few Chinese dramas nowadays that are based on a certain ancient Chinese dynasty. Most period dramas nowadays are made up of fictional dynasties and countries that never existed. You have to search for slightly older titles.
Zhao Lu Si plays her role well and is doing the heavy lifting, followed by Liu Yu Ning.
