Do we have an explanation from the cast or production team/director about the ending? I need to know how to interpret…
Someone did a research of this director and it seems all of his leads in his previous works don’t end up together or died. He changes his name for every single drama he shoots, perhaps to avoid backlash. This scriptwriter is also known for writing hasty endings, as with a lot of cdrama writers. One reviewer said Ruyi was actually shown to have ridden off in a horse after the bombing in the final episode in a preview, but in the actual airing of the episode, it was not shown. It probably means the scene was cut and the ending was altered. It’s obvious the scriptwriter and director had the intention to let all of them die but also wanted to create try some artistic ending which totally confused viewers and failed in that last 1 min.

CHS (LTG) was the most unstable character. Wishy washy because he couldn't decide whether to be a lunatic or an…
His hate of NYZ vaporised overnight and turned into love and respect for him. Unless it’s something that he already was feeling but was unaware, which wasn’t portrayed anyways, the switch is just too schizophrenic and and out of character. On one hand he is calm and collected, like when he was under house-arrest by emperor An, he didn’t attempt any reckless escapes or talk much but was strategising how to escape. Ruyi praised him for being the smart one capable of being the next emperor, but in the entire show, he has not shown any brilliance at all. He went to emperor A with the military report without any strategy, EVEN though he had the palace guards all under him, as well as some soldiers from his ex-father-in-law. The scriptwriter really did not do him justice.

It looks like Chu Yue is also dead which is why she was able to see the boy and he's leading her to the afterlife…
It’s just lazy writing because the writer wrote the story to end with everyone dying but wants to bring “hope” to the audience so it’s anyone’s game.

If Chu Yue is dead, it’s weird that her subordinate will be asking her to go to the crowning ceremony. Also, the kid said the horse was given by an uncle, who bears the same surname as NYZ’s subordinate, who survived the war.

The vision where the whole gang appeared also had dreamy lighting as compared to the scene where Chuyue was talking to the boy.

But it does seem implausible NYZ survived except the director deliberately doesn’t show you his remains.

I also think it makes more sense that Chuyue died, but they just need to take out the scene where was NYZ speared, then everyone would have have guessed both RRY and NYZ survived.

The scriptwriter need not have killed everyone off.

I'm actually not interest in his story. They should have killed him off earlier.
His acting is average, only skin deep. I think it’s passable but not great. It’s not easy to play his character but it also gives him a lot of potential.

He Lan Dou is so much better. She’s kind of like the best actress in the drama, even though her role is not one with polar extreme emotions.

Am I the only one who felt like things stagnated a bit in the middle and then there was the rush to the end? The…
You aren’t the only one. The drama doesn’t make. lot of sense towards the end. Ruyi and NYZ can fly towards He Xian, so quickly. Even though 20,000 men travel slowly, usually a small advance party can zip through and reach the same time as Ruyi and NYZ. But no, the army arrived many days later even though they set off together. Too many loose ends in the last few episodes.

That's a weird title.
Most cdramas have lazy writing towards the end and just crash and burn. Her previous script generated controversy as well.

The express package from IQIY tomorrow is my early x*mas gift. I sure can't wait 3 more days.
What streaming platform are you all using for International audiences?

I cannot access iQiyi China even with VPN because I do not have a Chinese phone number so I cannot sign-up for iQiyi in China.

iQiyi in Singapore does not have that show. I'm using VIU in Singapore.

I managed to download episode 36-40 but I am just curious.

The entrance lighting was okay. The OST is good too! It's the sound effects. Those "biong biong" sounds.

Am i the only one unnecessarily bothered by that cheap and out of nowhere light coming from the cave? At least…
Yes I noticed that too and it’s once off. The other time they used it is the dramatic entrance when Ning Yuan Zhou and his gang strolled into a hall.

The only annoying thing is the sound effects and sometimes too comedic action at wrong timings. For a cdrama, this drama’s production quality is considered good.

Just look at those cdramas with ultra white washed colours and super obvious studio lighting for courtyard scenes kind of dramas. That kind I cannot stand.

Is it wrong that I want Yang Ying and LTG to end up together. I just feel like there something there.
YY deserves better but LTG is at least better than the one YY’s crown prince. LTG tried to kill her before but at least he saved her once and rushed to save her when he knew she was in trouble. iQiyi’s VIP release is the same as VIU. 35-40 are all not released yet!

that's why I said it was a good try to make an approach to this important topic. But it bugs me that they simplify…
Yup I don't disagree. I'm comparing this show with all other kdramas, cdramas, Taiwanese and Singapore dramas. It is comparatively well made as a whole.

I think I get why you rated the acting and the cast at 7.5 but the story at 6.

It's very uplifting in general actually! Most epidoes end on a good note. Why not start watching, and pause or skip some parts if you feel uncomfortable? It's sweet drama. I didn't have issues with it, although I had anxiety issues in the past.

Is anxyiety and panic attacks one of the main plot points of this drama? Could it be triggering?
It does showcase a few patients with these issues. Different people have different triggers so it’s hard to say but I think the show can be tense at some parts and it makes you sad. In a good way though.

As a mental health professional myself, I would say the portrayal of the mental health issues and the diagnosis by the psychiatrists in the drama are considered incredibly accurate, but dramatised for the sake of a drama. It is meant to be an uplifting show, so some things are not realistic. As an international audience, I know in Korea, there’s a lot of stigmatisation so it is not possible for the FL to work as a nurse when she has major depression, but in many western nations, at least legally, your mental health history should not affect your employment as long as it is in remission or under control. In the States, you do not even need to declare it, by law.

I’m Singaporean by the way, and yes, we do have healthcare professionals who have mental health issues. Unless you have schizophrenia, someone with depression isn’t going to cause any harm to patients. It affects your energy and mood, and it’s possible to continue working even one you are having an episode, depending on how severe it is. For the FL, she has major depression which means it’s episodic.

I think the drama wants to showcase that so that it is a glimmer of hope for Korea to work towards international standards.

The “rich man dating a poor woman” trope is of course overused in Korean dramas so I do know where you are coming from, so this side-love story didn’t do much for me either, except the 2nd FL’s acting wasn’t to bad to watch.

This reflects the critics who ride the short bus, they can't follow along and complain. Non linear stories appear…
You can judge the content of the review, but please refrain from judging me. I have edited the review to reflect that this was written after I on episode 6, which is already half the drama. Not every drama is everyone's cup of tea, and there are viewers who agree too.

EP1 was too complex for you?The Shrine was abandoned, unsafe and a tragedy occurred. Civil servant assessed demolition…
She can accomplish her mission without being intrusive. The viewer is not saying she doesn't follow the story. She's saying the assertive female leads in kdramas are usually portrayed in stereotypical fashions that leans on opinionated, rude, but (and I add) silly and cute types. Romance usually starts with bickering. It's an overly used trope which works well sometimes.

I love Jo Bo-ah, but I don't like this show.

You can have your own opinion on the drama. That's really okay. We have our own.

I think you should not misunderstand what Ladymeow wrote though.

Review Go Ahead
Your view echoes the majority of audiences who gave the show a solid 9/10 for the 12 episodes before sliding and finally ended with a 6.7/10 on Douban (a popular Chinese site). I also find the scene where Ling Xiao kissed Jian Jian on her forehead creepy, and the scene where he forcefully kissed her even worse. The worse thing is not their couple moments to be honest, it’s how Jian Jian and Ling Xiao were suddenly together. Jian Jian did not go through a thought process or gradual change of heart, though she initially could not accept his love romantically as she treated him as an older brother. I had to rewatch thinking I missed a few episodes. He Zi Qiu’s resolution could have been easier by just explaining that he confused his brotherly love for romantic love but even that the writers were lazy and just left (although Jian Jian and the Dad explained it that way).

The resolution of the enmity between Ling Xiao and his mum and He Ziqiu and his mum were a tad rushed as well, and so is the resolution or without of the periphwral friends.

Lastly the actor who played Ling Xiao, Zhang Wei Long can’t really act.

The rest of the cast had superb acting.

I would still think it’s a show worth watching just because of the solid first half and decent humour and family scenes, or just cos family genre dramas are hard to find and do well.
