I agree that a natural or battlefield death might have spared him the unbearable pain.

Honestly, I am glad that he didn't die. By the end, yes he was suffering but he didn’t give up. He sought therapy, he accepted help, he tried to heal. Even when he was at his lowest, he still had the will to fight. He even went back to his father and asked to be hospitalized, knowing that it was a step toward recovery. That alone speaks volumes about his character.

This drama also changed my perspective on war. It made me think not just about civilian suffering, but also about soldiers, volunteers, and their families. Their pain doesn’t end when the war does—it lingers, haunts, and sometimes, never fades.

This drama hit so hard. I don’t care what anyone else thinks about the ending—it’s bittersweet, yes, but it’s realistic. No sugarcoating, no forced happy ending. Just raw, selfless love in its purest form. It’s not just a romance—it’s about love, loss, war, trauma, and survival.

I have no words for Chen Zhe Yuan. His portrayal of Li Zan felt so real that it didn’t even seem like acting—it was him. His journey unfolds in four distinct phases (as for me):
1. The strong and cheerful instructor – confident, full of life, and an expert in his field.
2. The aftermath of the explosion – completely shattered, both physically and emotionally. The change is so stark you can see his suffering.
3. A glimpse of recovery – as he returns to the Eastern Country, he starts finding himself again, though he’s still far from the man he once was.
4. Severe PTSD – this phase is the most heartbreaking. He feels like a frightened child, completely consumed by his trauma. The way Chen Zhe Yuan portrayed this—his trembling, his vacant stares, the sheer terror in his eyes—it was devastatingly real.

Even though the script had a few weak moments, the acting, emotions, and storytelling overshadowed everything. The last episodes were so powerful that words can’t do them justice—you can only feel them.

i am on ep 26, and still can understand the love-hate-bickering relation of ben and saxin. is it just to make the plot more interesting?
