Why are you watching ?
I cant wait and I have like a 10% mandarin literacy and a 90% cantonese literacy so im managing it some how - Im like: what are they saying and then translate it to cantonese in my head then retranslate it into English to see if its what I think it is.

lmfao this is unhealthy, xiezheng is giving me unrealistic expectations 😭 as if a man could ever be that devoted…
a lot do, but they are usually not on the woman's radar - pretty girls usually pass the unicorns up since they have so much options.

I read the comments because I wanted to know if I should watch (it's long as these dramas usually are so I didn't…
Best one in a long time. IMO, amongst all the top ones of this genre in the last 10 years, this is one them. Characters are written really well, you want to root for them.

This is a silly take. And clearly misunderstands the show. She clearly likes him. He knows that. But she doesn't…
The intro to the charter was classic anti hero that is methodical, smart, and careful to show his feelings - guarded. Then for simple drama reason, they made him into a cheap jealous boyfriend type - that's my beef with that ML. The rest of the cast is pretty standard, female lead is likable - acting is bit mild. She was better in condor heroes.

Writers are human beings, some are great all the time, some are great half the time and some are great once in a blue moon. Clearly the writer did not have a clear consistency with the ML here. I dont blindly put all writers on a pedestal because they got some parts right. The thing you are referring to is suspension of disbelief. My issue is not that. My issue is this ML clearly was not written with consistency. The writer needed to inject drama and took the easy way out by making him a jealous repulsive man when he is around people that also like the FL. That is counter to what they want to project "calculated cold man that falls in love with a woman". He becomes this insecure petty person resorting to weak human behavior to win her heart. If you want him to be that trope, then his other personality has to match. Unless their goal was to make a bipolar crazy person.

You are confusing me critiquing his behavior with what you want people to feel about the show. You have a hard time accepting other people ā€˜s world views in human behavior and conflated with someone not understanding a pretty standard c-drama. I’ve been watching drama since the 80s probably before you were born - I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them all. I’m merely giving my perspective on what I dislike and it has nothing to do with whatever expectation you want to put on other viewers.

Thank You, exactly what I was witnessing. In Cantonese we have this male virtue called ā€œgwut hayā€ lose translation ā€œbone chiā€meaning core unwavering convection and dignity that the man follows. This is used often to combat unnecessary embarrassment or dignity. This ml is the opposite of that. They propped him up as this cold calculated goal drivin man , but when it comes to the girl, he becomes this weasel using petty tricks and lies to to keep her around and becomes the jealous little man when she interacting and not flirting with other men. They wrote two distinct personality traits into one character. I’m eye rolling and fast forwarding those scenes.

That is text book clingy and desperate no matter how much the story want to glorify him. You are confusing honesty with self serving narcissistic behavior - thats not love, its obsessive behavior. Wether she is honest or not about her feeling does not excuse his behavior aka "whataboutism".

Im addressing character trait of the ML. The flaws of the FL does does not give an excuse ( I reject your whataboutism fallacy) for the writer to make the ML into a desperate man using pitiful strategies to keep his lover. Being honest is not the same as implementing scoundrel tactics on your relationship with your love interest - it makes the relationship inauthentic, petty, and ultimately fail due to the dishonesty of the relationship. The writer really thinks this is ok for normal person or even anti-hero type of person is seriously flawed. I find people that act this way pathetic and miserable. It is hard for me watching a show where the plot is geared towards elevating such a weak human being. Desperate and clingy man as a male lead only to be carried by his boy-band looks.

If the girl likes you then she likes you, no point in doing stupid things to prevent her or other people from interacting. Big red flag of someone that doesnt trust their own abilities around women - WEAK character trait. Other than that, the show is decent.

Title Sword and Fairy 1 Spoiler
I can look past the timidness but it’s the writing that makes her noble idiocy personified that annoys me.
I agree. She knows ML has memory issues but dont want to fight for it and decides give up at almost every opportunity? In the beginning she was about to kill ML with electrocution but now on a dangerous adventure, she is willing to prey to everyone and everything just to stay timid? The 2nd girl almost kill the husband when they 1st met but she didnt do anything like getting mad or try to retaliate. The character is written like a helpless animal or a helpless child post island encounter.

I don't agree with your point of view, I can only tell you that this is due to cultural differences. FL's performance…
Im chinese born in china. This isn't a just a Chinese thing, there are timid people all over the world within every culture. This trope in Chinese Drama is so one dimensional. Timid people being timid is because they haven't gone through hardship or life and death situations. There isnt any character growth after almost dieing, getting wrecked by people trying to kill you - it like none that stuff taught her to anything.. That is the problem. She stay timid no matter what happened and honestly the suspension of disbelief is wearing thin.

FL is annoyingly timid. It is just too much. The show is good, but they over exaggerate her timidness. Every scene feels like she is just a child among adults. FL can't even finish a sentence without someone interrupting her.

Lazy script couldn't make her interesting and give her a personality of a shy 8 year old.
