What are some examples? of The plot tries so hard to be deep and mysterious, but most of the time it just ends…
Every character having “hidden identities” or secret pasts
Instead of revealing things step by step, the show keeps stacking more secrets on top of each other, so it feels like delay instead of progression.
The repeated trust and betrayal cycle
Characters team up, then suddenly suspect each other, then betray each other, then team up again. It happens so often it stops feeling meaningful.
Illusion and past-life sequences
Instead of advancing the story, these scenes often replay the same emotional moments in different settings, so it feels like repetition with a new filter.
The main goal keeps getting interrupted
The hunt for the demon or power keeps being pushed aside by new twists and side conflicts, so the story feels like it’s stalling instead of building forward.
Vague “mysterious” dialogue
Characters often speak in cryptic lines instead of clear explanations, which sounds deep at first but doesn’t actually add real meaning.
Basically, it keeps adding layers instead of resolving them, which makes it feel more complicated than actually deep.

If I’m being honest about Veil of Shadows, it really feels like a show that thinks it’s way smarter than it actually is.
The plot tries so hard to be deep and mysterious, but most of the time it just ends up feeling dragged out and repetitive. Half the “big reveals” are obvious way before they happen, yet the show treats them like some mind-blowing twist. Instead of being engaging, it just gets frustrating to sit through.
The characters don’t help either. I couldn’t really connect to any of them they feel flat, and their motivations change whenever it’s convenient for the story. One minute they act one way, the next minute they’re completely different, and it never feels earned. It just feels like the writers are forcing things to happen.
Visually, yeah, it looks stylish at first. Dark tones, slow-motion shots, all that dramatic stuff but after a while it just feels like it’s hiding how empty everything else is. The action and emotional moments don’t hit because there’s no real weight behind them.
And the dialogue… honestly, it tries way too hard to sound deep. Characters keep saying these vague, “philosophical” lines that don’t actually mean much when you think about them. It’s like the show is confusing sounding smart with actually being smart.
There are moments where you can see what it could’ve been some interesting ideas here and there but they never fully land.
Overall, it just feels like wasted potential. It’s not terrible, but it’s definitely not as clever or meaningful as it wants to be.

I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed with how Zhang Ling He was used in Pursuit of Jade. His role comes across as surprisingly minor, almost like he’s only there to tick the romance box rather than actually contribute to the depth of the story. I kept expecting more from his character, more impact, more presence but it just never really got there for me. It’s a shame, because he definitely has the ability to bring much more to a role than what we saw here.

What really surprised me was how layered the story turned out to be. At first it felt like a pretty standard historical romance setup, but the deeper it went, the more political tension and character complexity started to unfold. The pacing isn’t perfect some middle episodes drag a little but the emotional payoff later makes it worth sticking with.
The main leads carried the drama really well. Their chemistry felt natural instead of overly dramatic, and I liked that their relationship developed through trust and shared struggles rather than instant romance. There are a few moments where the writing leans into typical drama tropes, but the actors sell the emotions enough that it still lands.
Visually, the drama is gorgeous. The costumes and scenery have that polished historical aesthetic that Chinese dramas do so well. Some of the palace scenes especially look stunning, and the cinematography adds a lot to the overall atmosphere. What I appreciated most was that the story didn’t make its characters purely good or bad. A lot of the side characters have understandable motivations, which makes the conflicts feel more meaningful.
If I had to criticize something, it would be that a few subplots feel rushed, like the writers wanted to wrap things up quickly. I wish certain characters had gotten a bit more resolution.
Overall, I’d say Pursuit of Jade is a really enjoyable watch if you like historical dramas with romance, intrigue, and strong character moments. It’s not flawless, but it kept me invested and emotionally engaged.

On About Love Mar 5, 2026
Title About Love
I started About Love expecting the same formula that many Chinese romance dramas usually follow. Most of the time it is sweet scenes repeated again and again, unnecessary misunderstandings, and characters acting unrealistically just to keep the story going. But this drama surprised me in a very good way.
About Love is not the typical lovey lovey romance story. The relationship feels much more raw and realistic. The characters are flawed and emotional and sometimes even frustrating, but in a way that actually feels human. They make decisions based on pride, fear, and personal struggles instead of just following predictable drama logic.
One thing I appreciated a lot is that the writing respects the audience. The story does not drag the same misunderstanding forever and the conflicts move forward naturally. Conversations between the characters feel genuine and sometimes uncomfortable, which makes the emotional moments much stronger when they happen.
The acting also plays a big role in why the drama works so well. The chemistry between the leads does not feel forced or exaggerated. Instead it comes through quiet moments, tension, and small emotional reactions. It feels less like a scripted romance and more like watching two people trying to figure out their complicated feelings.
The pacing is also better than what we usually see in this genre. The drama focuses more on character development and emotional growth rather than repeating the same romantic clichés over and over again.
Brutally honest, this drama made me realize how average many romance c dramas actually are. About Love does not rely on the usual tricks and it is clearly trying to tell a more honest story about relationships.
It is not a perfect drama, but it is definitely refreshing. If someone is tired of the usual sweet and predictable romance stories, About Love is a drama that actually feels different and worth watching.

Title About Love
Absolutely wrecked me in the best way possible. The chemistry is insane, the acting feels painfully real, and every episode hits like an emotional truck. No cheesy fluff, just raw, messy, intense love that actually feels human. This drama didn’t just deliver, it dominated. It's nothing like the usual sugary, copy-paste romance dramas. No fluffy clichés, no overused misunderstandings dragged for 10 episodes. It’s fun, raw, intense, and painfully real. The emotions feel grounded, the chemistry is explosive, and the characters actually grow. This one doesn’t play safe. It hits hard and leaves a mark. I love it. Bring the score up!

I was going to start this over the weekend but like you, I don't need happy endings. I need the plot to actually…
Hello Paulina, don't waste your time on this show. ;)

Title Glory
I’ll be honest the ending of Glory was a letdown for me. After spending so many episodes carefully building complex characters and slow-burn conflicts, the finale felt rushed and oddly cowardly. Years of tension were wrapped up in a hurry, emotional beats barely had time to land, and characters started acting for the sake of convenience instead of consistency.
What bothers me most is that the show teased depth and consequences, then backed out at the last moment. It wasn’t meaningfully open ended it just felt unfinished. Some arcs were flattened, some sacrifices cheapened, and the resolution lacked the emotional weight the story had earned.

I didn’t need a happy ending. I didn’t even need a clean one. I needed an earned one.

Title Glory
Glory is a drama that mistakes refinement for substance. Beneath its elegant visuals and tea-culture symbolism lies a story that is overly predictable and increasingly repetitive.

After the first two male-centered conflicts, the pattern becomes obvious and the drama never breaks it. Every subsequent rivalry unfolds the same way: a mild provocation, restrained posturing, a brief escalation, then a neat resolution that restores emotional balance. Once you recognize the formula, upcoming conflicts are easy to predict episodes in advance, draining them of tension and suspense.

The pacing is slow not because the story is meditative, but because it keeps circling the same dramatic beats. Characters revisit the same emotional positions without meaningful evolution, mistaking repetition for depth. The tea-world setting, while beautifully presented, rarely influences the outcome of these conflicts in new or interesting ways it decorates the narrative rather than driving it.

The leads remain composed and likable, but also safely contained. Their romance follows an expected, polite trajectory, and any hint of sharper ambition, jealousy, or moral compromise is quickly softened. No conflict is allowed to cut too deep or last too long.

In the end, Glory is elegant but risk-averse. Its greatest flaw is not that it lacks beauty, but that it lacks surprise. Viewers who enjoy calm, aesthetically pleasing dramas may find it soothing. Those seeking unpredictability, escalating stakes, or conflicts that evolve rather than repeat will likely find it graceful but dull.

On Love between Lines Jan 14, 2026
A drama with a strong premise that never fully commits. Love Between Lines wants to be a mature, industry-aware romance about actors, blurred boundaries, and emotional labor but it plays everything safe. The entertainment industry is sanitized, conflicts are softened, and characters are protected from lasting consequences.

The leads are competent and likable, the acting is solid, and the production is polished, but the story is emotionally over-managed. Flaws are cosmetic, trauma is aestheticized, and moral discomfort is quickly resolved instead of explored. The romance has chemistry, yet it’s low-risk and highly predictable, despite the show’s claims about blurred lines between performance and reality.

Overall, it’s not a bad drama just a cautious one. It gestures at depth without daring to go there. Best suited for viewers who want gentle, well-made romance framed as maturity, not for those looking for real tension, sharp critique, or consequences that actually hurt.

On Surely Tomorrow Jan 11, 2026
Surely Tomorrow wants to be a quiet, melancholic romance, but it mostly ends up feeling dull. It leans heavily on introspection while offering very little emotional payoff, mistaking slow pacing for depth and restraint for substance. While there are a few sincere moments, they’re too sparse to save a story weighed down by a tired structure and predictable beats.
Rather than feeling subtle or mature, the drama often feels lifeless. The emotional tension never fully builds, the chemistry lacks spark, and the narrative never takes enough risks to justify its own slowness. It’s not terrible but it’s disappointingly forgettable, especially given how promising the premise initially sounds.
Who might still like it:
Viewers who enjoy extremely slow, understated dramas and don’t mind long stretches where very little actually happens.
Who should skip it:
Anyone expecting engaging pacing, memorable romance, or a story with real narrative bite will likely walk away bored.

it's funny there is a lot of comments about this drama not because people likes it but more because people dislikes the arcs between all characters... the story could be good if the arcs and the characters were more interesting and natural. it's a donkeys parades in this drama, stupid characters all the way till the end.

I really hate the ML, dull no brain, not a real man, hurting people around him. Go back to you mommy boy. This tv show is a mess.
1. The pacing is slow, with emotional reveals stretched too far.
2. Antagonistic elders—especially Feng Rui’s mother—act in ways that feel intrusive or oppressive.
3. Misunderstandings between the leads become frustrating, lingering longer than the story requires.
4. Certain character decisions feel inconsistent or irrational, weakening emotional impact.
5. Secondary antagonists behave in exaggerated, forced ways.
6. The atmosphere grows heavy and repetitive, diminishing momentum.
7. The mother–son storyline occasionally overshadows the central romance.
8. Feng Rui’s indecision becomes irritating, undermining sympathy for his arc.
9. The long-time admirer subplot adds little and distracts from the main narrative.
10. Emotional tension rises slowly and resolves slowly, creating an uneven rhythm.
