i agree ! also some dramas misuse the tag bromance for BL. so it gets even harder to find a good friendship drama.
though it's harder to trust MDL, I'm still thankful I found some likeminded drama watchers here
back to the question why rated 9, MLC is that rare classic wuxia that don't depend on fancy CGI. got investigation, light comedy, and angst too. my suggestion is, to watch first case at least. one episode isn't enough to decide to continue or not.

madam yin's 100 eye spider husband was also "killed", but Fugui said, spiders can fake death for many years. there was simply a ward on her husband. fugui unlocked that for her. thats how he is madam yin's benefactor.
so Fugui may have taken the seed, however he preserved her elsewhere. QT wasnt killed. She was in similar spider in orb form like 100 eye spider did.
how much of fugui's plan did QT know? in the least she knows it's needed for defeating black fox
and Fugui at first tried to make QT go away instead of taking the seed. because he didnt know how to do that without harming QT. later he figured it out of course. also note that QT didn't turn into smoke like QC did when die.
remember fugui was polite enough to ask for consent before taking the water pearl? also he couldve taken sand fox with him, so he have extra help.
but in the end he faced it alone, keeping casualty to minimum. hong ye wished fugui wont face as much death as he did with masked troupe. "fugui is unparalled" like hong ye said.
also this cast and synopsis looks interesting, so i didn't expect it's a drama he is obligated to film 😲

this is a short 28 episode revenge drama. no romance, but have friendship and brotherhood.
if liked serious drama like NIF, and bromance that MLC have = ✅ more reason to try !
