Exactly I was a bit surprised by this too, because people seem to be ok with entitled rich male leads who ACTUALLY bully the FL but have a 180 personality turn thanks to her, yet couldn’t tolerate Lixun when dude didn’t really start the beef on his own. He's arrogant not because of money or popularity at least, and most of his quips even in the first episodes are half-flirting lol. Zhuyun literally was the one coming back to him for more querelling, if she truly hated him the story wouldnt have even happened lmao. I do agree the scene where he humiliates her later on was too much and I didn’t forgive him for that either, but if you understand his character this is actuality the scene which shows how much she had taken roots in his life because he couldn’t stand to watch her being taken away when he had promised him she would stand by him forever. Yes it was a dick move, totally. I didn’t like it, but I found it realistic for his personality. Zhuyun knows him better than everyone else so she found it in herself to forgive that.

this is one of the few historical c-drama where I didn't like the mortal realm arc lol I barely remember what they did because I had to fast-forward, but except that arc which took around 9 episodes I really appreciated this. The female lead gets tolerable at some point and Dylan's acting in that one scene made me shed tears. I also liked how there wasn't a super extra angsty "betrayal" scene like many historical c-dramas.

Hmm because of the overflowing praises I was impatient to watch this drama and was kinda disappointed. I'm not saying it's not good, i see why it's a classic, but I have to be attached to the characters to really enjoy a drama and it wasn't the case here. What I was the most surprised about was how charmless I found Ye hua. It's been a longtime since I've been this unmoved by a male lead actually.

The characters are the best thing about this. So memorable. Amazing cinematography too.

it's been 4 days yet I still can't quite move on. This became of one my favourite dramas in general. I'm usually not for the "bad guy/good girl" trope but the characters weren't really those archetypes either, it was done very well here (gotta give it to the actors for their portrayal). Both leads have awesome chemestry (they got lost in e/o's eyes and I got lost in both their eyes too lmao) and there is just something about their unconditional love story that was inexplicably beautiful and compelling to me.
Yes their relationship was very rocky and sometimes unhealthy, yes the characters have apparent flaws especially the male lead, but I'm not the type to look for perfect green relationships everytime everywhere in fiction. I like flawed, complex but attaching characters and slow burn works that can make me feel THE love and I definitely found that here! The only thing I wasn't this satisfied about was the revenge parts and some character's choices.
If I had to give a tip to watch this, it's not to get spoiled or look for when certain key events happen : since you eagerly wait for it, some more mellow and peaceful moments may feel boring to you because of that. Just dive in without spoiling yourself.

After watching Lighter & Princess I started watching her other stuff and became a fan. She has really good cp with her co-stars. If I had to describe why, she makes you feel the love her character has for the guy as if it was your own ? You can feel it and relate to it. it makes the chemestry works. I also like how she chooses her works too, good luck to her in the future
