DY as TBOY prequel is surely confusing for TBOY fans.
It feels as if the writer just wrote what he liked while ignoring the timeline. And that ending, is surely a contradictory to TBOY beginning.

In TBOY, she dressed up as Yueqing, since Dongjun was after her for poor Dingzhi's fate, stabbed her on the chest, then realised it was Yue Yao, who did that to protect the little shit.

In DY, Yue Yao lived and went back to Qiandong with Dongjun, to get married

Yue Yao is alive.
Baili Dongjun and Yue Yao are leaving for Qiandong City to get married.

Yueqing killed herself.
Yi Wenjun left poor Luo QingYang to go back to the palace while he called her name.

It is finally over.
Production decided to go with the novel for the main couple's fate.
It will be confusing for TBOY fans but considering the errors and inconsistencies in DY as TBOY prequel, at least this inconsistency will keep the fans happy.

It is tougher with funny scenes 😂

How did he 'mess up' the timeline in the novel? Didn't he have outlines and charts of everything?

Since some alterations from the novel were already done, DY should just follow TBOY outline, with Baili Dongjun's fresh younghood story as the main topic. It is the prequel afterall. Alas, they could not even do that.

Drama adaptation does not always follow the whole plot in its original novel.
But a prequel must follow its sequel, that was aired earlier.
In TBOY, there was a Yin Luoxia, one of the important supporting characters, so DY made a show of the younger her.

I have no idea why another lousy improv made in DY.
I mean what was it supposed to add to the script?
Even if Ye Yu really was a defector, it would not change anything, since Yueqing would still let her father consume YDZ's power and YDZ would still take over the leadership to make the world pay for all the pain he endured.

At the end of episode 35, Ye Dingzhi was more powerful than Mr. Wuming. Junyu said so.

I watched ep 35 twice and what Lord Yue said was not something like Ye Dingzhi's father was a traitor but a martial artist with extreme prowess, who moved to Beili and became its lackey.
Martial artists were free from any court involvement so Ye Yu did not work for Beique's kingdom.
And martial artists were also free to stay where they wanted to.
It was likely that his dad was young at that time too.

Lord Yue was upset that instead of working with him, Ye Yu chose to stay and work with Beili, thus calling him Beili's lackey.
He never uttered the word traitor but surely hated YDZ's dad because General Ye Yu & Marquis Zhenxi were the main leaders who supported the emperor & defeated Beique

Ye Yu tried his best to lessen the numbers of victims in Beique while fighting the country but never once betrayed Beili while doing so.
Prince Qing made that a case and the Emperor concured because General Ye had great power and Emperor Tai'an was paranoid and wanted to keep his throne safe.

Baili Dongjun is the main character in this drama and Neo Huo has done a good job as the young carefree Liquor Sword Deity who looked sad and aloof in TBOY.

BDJ was a spoiled brat at the beginning of Dashing Youth, raised to be the flamboyant young master, with only swift moves as his martial technique, taught by his father, to run away from enemies. Arrogant and impolite as he was, BDJ was always honest.
He was not supposed to learn more techniques, since his families were aware about him being an innate martial artist.
Gu Chen also knew who he was and did not teach him anything but making liquor and suppressed his qi. BDJ could not use it unless he was drunk.
GC only decided to teach BDJ his martial techniques after realising BDJ had learned half of it and his ending was nearing.
BDJ character developed along with the episodes, with failures and sadness.

BDJ was perfect as the main story because he was the saviour of Beili.
Even Mr Li's dear disciple the respected super smart Roufeng could not help Roujin building a strong empire if there was no country to start with.

Neo Huo is perfect as the carefree BDJ and I reckon he would do well as BDJ with such devastating fate in the last episodes.

Watch and forget.
Just remember the memorable scenes.

It was about MoYi instead of Baili Dongjun, the actual main lead.
Then emperor.
Then head of people.
