She rather made him want to seek life again. To have a boring mortal life worrying about laundry and dinner with her was what he dreamed of. The team, although sometimes they did misunderstand him in the beginning, made him believe he had somebody's back to lean on. He was not alone after all. (That's what the growth in the drama was all about. Them understanding what it is to be powerless against destiny and to be put in his shoes.) Yeah he did die at the end but this is what the English title is about "Fangs of Fortune". No matter how hard you try to go against the tide of fate. The sharp fangs of destiny spare no one. More like Zhu Yan needed Wen Xiao all along. If she wasn't there in the first place, there would be no Zhao Yuan Zhou the way we know him . If Wen Xiao wasn't there for ZYC he would still be a depressed boy. Not related to the main comment but I don't understand why Wen Xiao's character is taken so lightly and is criticized so much. Yeah it does suck but for us as viewers who wanted them to be together in a happily ever after. But life does not go the way we want. You can not free yourself from the grip of destiny. And it was not a surprise it turned out this way because it was foretold on various occasions from the beginning to the end how it was going to turn out, be it ZYC oath in 1st ep or the destiny of a Cloud light sword bearer to kill the Greatest demon of their time or Zhu Yan's wish to die because he didn't want to kill under the control of malicious energy (though fortunately or unfortunately he finally found a reason to live in Wen Xiao). Another foreshadowing was the Yinglong and Bingyi arc which completely confirmed our fears about Zhu Yan's ending. (Personally i guess most of us here got into it knowing the end already though we too wished if things could turn out differently.) But if you see through ZY's pov he himself knew this was his fate and even if at the end he had a choice he would choose to go because how would he let his beloved sacrifice herself and live on when she is the one and only reason he held on to his life once again. What would be the point of being in this world for him. So it was the last act of love for her and for the world he had once promised to protect. Lastly about Zhu Yan's Promise letter flying to ZYC was not to symbolize the transfer of responsibility to take care of wen xiao on his behalf but the biggest closing revelation of Zhu Yan's last fragment of soul. ZYC who had gone out on a seemingly endless journey of finding his best friend's last trace he had somehow managed to save was all along by their side and the most beautiful part about it was that it was hidden in the blood oath between Wen Xiao and Zhu Yan fulfilling his promise to her even after he had left showing how he would keep his promise to her in life and death. The relationships are truly super complicated and characters are multidimensional showcasing a truer color of real human personalities and emotions. And it was certainly a love triangle. Zyc did love wen xiao. It was just a silent and nurturing kind of love.
When he slapped himself to get back up and proceed to sacrifice himself for the greater good, my heart not only shattered but I felt like it was trampled on by someone. As if the cruelty of fate was laughing in Zhu Yan's face. How he had to slap himself to come to his senses and pull himself out of the stabbing grief of leaving his beloved behind and give up his life when he had finally found a reason to live and let go of the past misfortunes. How the dream of having a quiet lovely and boring home with Wen Xiao remained just an unfulfilled yearning in his heart. Being a Great Demon all he wanted was some care and a hug.

But when we got to know the actual story it turned out that Yinglong was the one who asked to be killed to give his power of creation to the universe to make the stars shine the sky. I think Bingyi himself asked for a mortal life because of Yinglong's death which deeply saddened him and he didn't want to remain in an eternal suffering and pain of losing his best friend.
There is a very conspicuous detail. I don't know if it has any other meaning than symbolizing the last moments of ZYC elder brother's life. But the scene where he is shown dead we see the Cloud Light sword shining though we know he had never been able to activate it during his life. Does it have any other meaning or am i thinking too much?
