IDC what people say but am loving the intensity of this show and the lead pairing has utterly destroyed my sanity. Like I -a grown woman- am sitting squealing and wailing and sobbing because of Zhao and Yanlai. The only thing I regret is watching this live because the wait for each episode is absolutely unbearable but I like that its so fast-paced and keeps me gripped, most period dramas I have dropped because they get too repetitive about politics and make it draggy but this one doesn't and I genuinely cant even skip a moment. I hate Deng Yi and Yanfeng but also love them, Xun disgusts me but I still want him on screen. AM SO GRIPPED AND CAPTIVATED BY THEM ALL!

Heyaaa! 1. no not really, the other men arent exactly love interests as grey shaded politicians, the ex is dumped in epi 1 itself. 2. still airing but am kinda obsessed with this especially cause of the tension between the leads. 3. Yes happened in today's epi but it wont last long, spoilers show them together again soon. 4. Through and through big time yearner and worships the ground fl walks in.

Alright I have this theory about the kid Deng Yi keeps hallucinating: I feel he was his brother and was killed in the fire in Wei village. He must have initially thought it was set by Xie Yanlai but then started leaning towards the idea that Yanfang set it and the fault fell on Yanlai because he was discovered on the scene with his brother’s corpse. Deng Yi is an extremely grey character and not all bad so I feel he came into the palace to discover the truth and now wants revenge.
The bottles of poison have obviously been planted to make Yanlai once again the scapegoat for punishment. While Xiao Xun is the obvious answer, I refuse to feel it’s that easy. Maybe Yanfang is the hidden villain and planned all this.

Yess I am absolutely loving it all- the cinematography has been criticised alot but I feel the loud colour grading and quick transitions make this feel more high stakes. Also, I am more of a modern cdrama person, only got into the historical genre this year because of Pursuit of Jade so am just really enjoying all these new visuals being thrown my way.
I started watching this show for Yiran's face card and cause I was bored when this popped up on Netflix. But man it had me hooked from the get go: first with Chu Zhao's cunning (Chenduling) and Yiran's face economy (am shallow, let a girl enjoy), and then episode 3 onwards the chemistry hits--catching me completely off guard at how intense it is. Like the kind of intense that had me squealing with my girlfriends in gcs when they were just looking at each other, not even touching.
I am seeing alot of complaints everywhere but as a neutral audience who went into this with absolutely no expectations whatsoever, am really enjoying the cleverness shown by Zhao. Many people are complaining that Xie Yanlai constantly fights for her but for me, strength isn't just physical but also cerebral and emotional. She knew from her past life that Yanlai felt something for her and manipulated him with her flirting so she could have a trustworthy ally but really ended up falling for him slowly--to me that screams both cleverness and emotional intelligence. You can disagree but as someone new to the rebirth plot, am really enjoying this and these two will probably be up there for me in the couples I love from cdramaland because the tension between them is absolutely crackling!
