Also Immortality could have beaten Untamed if it came out in 2021. Everyone who read the book knows how crazy story is. It is almost like chinese game of thrones.

I was restraining myself from answering you many times before. But I have to write now. Stop injecting western politics in every chinese BL post. You're literally everywhere, writing dictator 1000 times already, that's very repetitive and annoying. Especially when people are asking questions, while you don't know anything, yet always decide to answer. That type of behaviour does not help with release, probably doing more harm.
Nope the release doesn't not depend on dictator and his lackeys. Chinese politics and cencorship are far more complex than that. The main guy does not sit there deciding to approve some tv show to get released. There are international relationships that can affect it and many internal affairs, too many and complicated. That's why nobody, even production companies don't know what's happening rn.

That's very true. Japan and SK gay(bl) novels/comics makes the least amount of money out of all other genres. Those meant for very specific audiences.
China however is very different. It's danmei is one of the most popular themes in the novels. Which actually had around 300 mln regular readers.
Production companies obviously would love to milk them, that's why after huge success of Untamed around 20 novels were announced adaptations. Sadly we couldn't even see half of them because of ban.
Danmei is chinese novel genre that has two main male characters that are in love with each other. Otherwise it can be any genre like horror, fantasy, historical, detective etc.

both Immortality and Eternal faith are more than 50episodes. I feel when Tencent will lose faith of released them in mainland, they'll have to release them internationally. But if you're talking about actual full length (not 3 - 4 hours long mini series) uncencored BL, I agree, that won't happen even in South Korea, let alone China

They did actually. Stay with was recorded for Taiwan, with chinese actors and was released there. However the international audience for cdramas are to small compared to domestic market. They'll never produce high budget drama for non chinese fan. In the other hand the chinese market for danmei novels are huge. Like Untamed hashtag was views 70bln times in weibo. Guardian, Woh, Addicted, even JID with only 8 episodes and now Spirealm are all huge hits there. It was huge cash grab before chinese government decided to step in. Such a waste thou.... There are only few BL based hinstorical dramas, compared to overall market. And all of these were released before the ban. Winner is the king, Immortality and Eternal Faith, are all high budget dramas that are on hold because of the ban. Even tho those aren't technically BL they were still seen as ones in China, probably that's the reason they were getting banned.

Series were leaked, it's never supposed to air. It's based on danmei BL novel, those adaptations are banned in China since 2022.
There are many similar series with much bigger budget that are in hold. Production companies produced those before the ban, they can't release them now.
78 episodes were 20 min long. They were probably testing the waters by leaking it as mini series. However all these are speculations. Offical explanation is "it was accidentally leak by one one employees".
Now they're releasing offical version for international audiences. It's supposed to be 40 min long 38 episodes. So the production company will at least make some money out of it.

Which proves my point that they have a right to release Dangai internationally. They just choose to wait for possible Chinese release. Immortality i expecting to became N1 drama there, so not doing it would be a waste financially. While spirealm is already leaked.

Taiwan is doing mini series when it comes to BL, and overall it lucks resources China have. Unknown is no more than 3.5 hours long series. Every other BL they did was the same. Danmei novels are long and expensive to adapt. Even Priest JID, which is modern, is top tier and expensive productive, yet alone stuff like Immortality or Winner is King. They're doing Dage because it can be adapted with little resources. Taiwan just don't have censorship issues concerning LGBT representation. Production companies still don't have hope in this genre, just like Korea. Like they actually censoring BL adaptation, cause they doing full length series with more or less popular actor.
The only hope for Dangai to air is for China to change it's policy back to 2021 era...

don't know why you misunderstood me so badly... I was agreeing with you. I'm saying this type of people talk about contribution to society only when it comes to BL content. Just like you said, they never talk this way about straight dramas. I was overall mentioning about content created for girls or boys also don't contribute that much to it. Like action movies made for guys or romcoms made for girls. They're just for entertainment and people are ok with it...

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. This has been heavy discussed topic in BL manga community for years. The so called ''yaoi'' genre (explicit relationship between men) has been an subject of controversy in west for a long time. It's been called out by LGBT community for fetishizing gay people. I would like to disagree but I can't. The reality of situation is that the genre is written and aimed at straight women, and straight women do have a fetish like that, just like straight men have it towards lesbian girls. Sex and deep kisses in this genre are done for this purpose. Same goes with Thai BL.
In the other hand Untamed which did remove various sex scenes from the novel replaced it with new far more romantic and sensual ones. I did show that drama to my mother. We live in traditional country and homophobia is just injected to everyone, for religious and political reasons. And guess what? She's not so homophobic anymore. That's not my story alone, a lot of people will tell you the same thing.
This drama became N1 for 2 years in country of 1.4bln people, which government is very homophobic. I heard some people claim there that they dislike the idea of BL drama being N1, which shows that everyone gets what it is despite cencorship. Yet majority praised it highly.
Can a small, half effort production ever get this result? Of course not!
After the success of Untamed they greenlighted dozen of this BL adaptation, yet government stepped up and completely banned the genre. Why do you think they did it? Cause they knew impact it will have in people and tried to prevent it.
It's not just about money put into it. Semantic error lucks the depth of novel, psychological aspect of relationship and their characters. As you said it's only chemistry, nothing more to that. It's because they could never manage to show such a relationship with few hours runtime. Because they luck budget and human resources.

yeah, me too. People disagree, but I'll be happy if they take Chinese approach towards adaptations. The reality of situation is that Korea won't adapt BL with a decent budget. They all shot with pure enthusiasm, without known actors and no long than 8, 20 min, episodes. Look what they did to Semantic Error, they literally removed 80% of its story, dramas budget was so low that they couldn't even afford Cho Sang Woo PC setup, instead gave him a laptop in his crappy room without even proper chair, like yeah that's how game designers work. Their uni looked like high school... People who liked it probably never picked up manhwa or novel... If they could do high budget adaptation with proper lenghty episodes, by removing kiss and sex scenes, yet still keeping it BL, I'm all for it.

For some reason argument about ''contributing to society'' only comes up when people discuss BL. Never heard anyone use this argument when talking about other entertainment aimed at girls or boys. I think it's convenient excuse to hate on something that doesn't have anything to do with you.

A lot of people especially in homophobic countries became far more tolerant and even pro gay community. Why? Because BL dramas, novels and comics portrays them as people in first place, people you can relate to and connect. Unlike western media that usually only try to advocate against homophobia. The result is people like you who only know how to attack in internet anyone who won't share their beliefs. The idea of multiple gender is belief, homosexuality is reality. Just because someone supports gay people doesn't mean they had to support everything USA democratic party supports. But you're to far gone to realize.
