Blame is a very fluent concept here. It's more like cause and effect. He assumed he has accurate understanding of what's right and wrong but it was not the case. He thinks he is covering up her crimes but she doesn't believe it's a crime. So from this perspective what good did he actually do to her? Does it align with her values? Did he help her achieve her goals? Did he even understand that they view world and rules differently. He made no effort for 100s of years.
It's like Lord Fan situation only LF is under obligation to look after wellbeing of his daughter. But as a husband he doesn't even have a right to act this way.
