He wasn't living in the house. He was a prisoner. He knew he wad a duke's son long before he decided he wants to be a matrilocal husband and still he pursued it He knew he had a brother and a nephew. He never cared meeting them. He was forced into these situations by his father. And he didn't look torn between her and "family". He was more than happy to leave them. All this was shown in the drama. He never waivered. If he wanted too he could have stayed a couple of months, get everything ready and then go back to her. But he didn't want to. Why can't we accept his decision which he supported more than once thoughout 36 episodes?

He said it himself that his family was his mother and stepfather. He didn't want to mend anything. Sure he would have stayed if RSB had stayed but only bc of her. He only wanted to be with her. Was his family important to him he wouldn't have wasted a month wanting to escape. As soon as RSB came he became alive again proving that all along RSB is his only family now. And as for RSB's family, she grew up with them, of course she wants to mend their problems, she has ties and feelings for them.

I think it suited her interests. Had LJL been injured or worse she would have burnt the duke's residence down. But not exposing her meant LJL had one less problem to think about and more reasons to leave. Don't forget she also left a fast horse for him

IMO the last arc was necessary as it showed that LJL is equal if not superior to RSB 's social standing so it's not a matter of wanting to elevate himself -no one can accuse her husband for a gold-digger. Also it answered perfectly the question "Why didn't he go to the capital to have a prestigious career?". Of course, we didn't get to see their married life but in the viewers mind it just proves that his resolve is not just pheromones. He 's always known who he is, what he wants, how he wants it and why.
