The only reason I didn't give this a 9 (I gave it a 8) is because it is damn draggy. There is just too much avoidance between the characters and they keep finding things out from other people (mainly ML's sister). I would've given more screen time to the second leads they were very interesting and mature about how they went about their relationship. I would've loved to see more of them. The third leads were kinda weird but consider they are high schoolers thats alright. It took 24 episodes to just get a confession and everything was just left to fate instead of talking it through. Also there was no point for the idol friend of the FL he didn't do anything he wasnt even an obstacle (There is no need for obstacles in this drama).

I'm not saying that parents should have a major say in their childrens relationships but you under estimate the amount of pull parents have in their childrens lives in Asian cultures. Filial piety is a deeply rooted concept in Asian culture and any mention of deviating from that value could potentially ruin their careers. Not to mention the emotional blackmail and gaslighting parents do.
In Asian culture, most of the social networks are inherited from parents to children, word spreads fast and standing out makes you a target for ridicule or worse get you isolated from social networks that could be crucial for your career. TV series are a mirror of reality most of the time.
All of this is based on the ancient value that the "collective is more important than the individual". Thus the saying a marriage is a union of two families".
Independence in relationships is a Western concept that is relatively new to Asian culture . Of couse these are changing but it takes a very long time to change cultures that are 2 millennia old.
I'm on episode 8 and the intro to her dark side is amazing, very well acted out. The conversation between her and her uncle and aunt was hilarious. Amen with a 'Fuck You' HILARIOUS.
I really like how they portrayed the dangers of full dive virtual reality technology and how it can really create a disconnect between you and reality by completely removing the risk factor. . There are quite a few cyberpunk novels where virtual reality addiction is very much a real thing and from seeing how everyone is already addicted to smart phones and even dependent on them, full dive virtual reality technology would true make society go dark. Why live in the real world when you can live in a world where your needs are met without any risk.
episode 6 was hilarious. I mean she found that her AI boyfriend did the same scenes with 12K+ women and her ideal type was the guy who confessed liking her and the one she was avoiding is just hilarious. LMAO. Edit: Episode 6 just keeps giving, the fight between the authors made me roll laughing.
The ending was very lackluster. The way the bad guy died or even the way she came back and just hid from him for an entire year. It just felt boring. Maybe it would've been better to make it a 16 episode series and explore these plotlines better.

If we follow your logic, the drama would've ended at the second/third episode when she complained to her friend about their hygene and it gets leaked over by the microphone. LMFAO.

People generally like something less serious. Super serious dramas without a hint of romance generally have a lower rating than rom-coms or even serious dramas with romance. People generally want to relax while watching not dissect plot points and predict what's going to happen next. Also, you can't take the ratings on MDL too seriously, even extremely good dramas have lower rating for some reason.

I think this drama takes into consideration the cultural aspects of Korea. In Korea, famous and powerful people/families are scrutinized to almost an insane degree. They have next to no privacy and every move they make is audited by the public. Search up celebrity dating scandals or affairs of powerful people in Korea.
Also, for publicly listed companies, rivals can use social media to drive the stock price down (There's a reason companies have large PR teams). For companies, reputation is of the utmost importance since their stock price depends on it and it is even more so in conservative cultures like Korea.
All they had to do to make this a better or typical story line was to reduce the number of breakups and misunderstanding!! Like damn the breakups were too many and made no damn sense even with explanations. I was screaming at the screen all the time "Please communicate more, you just need to talk". The only thing that made me watch the visuals . Won Jian's visuals were just simply stunning and the costumes for this dramas were impeccable.
