The problem with korean bl media is that there’s nothing much to offer other than romance. Plot wise they are pretty weak. So if you remove romance the reason why it’s even written kinda disappears. Cencored BL isn’t experiment you should do in korean or japan

See i just looked into Douban. And yup everyone seeing them as such. Which is pretty strange to me. Some of top reviews said “I don’t understand why it’s cencored, it would be more successful in Korea if it wasn’t”. Many comments here and all other English platforms also claims there’s strong bromance.
Honestly this comment section made me lose few braincells. How dense you could be to not realize BL bait is what made this show even remotely known? Have you seen the photoshoots?
To answer your question. The reason they removed Bl parts is because all KBL s are shot with 5$ and pure enthusiasm. Doing full lenght series with actual budget would’ve been groundbreaking and super risky. On the other hand censoring it would attract all the audiences.
this is nothing new for the people familiar with asian entertainment. Bl bait is almost constantly present in anime/manga. This is shown to be far more popular with people than pure BL.
Also the disrespect people here have for the genre, while they support the drama which is based on bl novel is pretty amusing. Like it’s literally the same story with some parts deleted. Move on with your life, you’ll forget this existed in a week…

That’s very ambiguous question, don’t you think so? I expect drama to be better than just “ fine, nothing was terrible, it was a fine watch”. I explained with details everything I liked and disliked about this drama. So I don’t understand what’s the point of asking again? You can disagree with my point, thats just your opinion vs mine.
This drama has almost same rating as Devil Judge (8.7), there’s no way ill agree it’s deserved, with character development, production quality, intriguing plot or even chemistry being compared.

Everything you mentioned here perfectly describes mediocre/ fine drama. I never said it is bad. Most korean actors are pretty good. Overall standards of kdramas are high. For me it was mediocre for others it can be fine/good. But nowhere near great and deserving of 8.6.

Exclusive Korea doesn’t mean the whole Korea is watching it. How popular are those platforms in Korea? Are they as famous as WeTv or Youku in China. Also That could be for a week. Popularity in Korea isn’t measured like that. There’s usually ratings, and I don’t see it anywhere. Untamed was the most successful cdrama for years. This is obviously better than korean BL s by popularly. But it’s nowhere near the actual successful kdramas. Stop acting that it’s drama of a year. Even being huge BL fan, I never was agains the idea of this drama. Many cdramas explored the cencored BL, and basically made a new romantic genre when you don’t need to see kiss or even confession to realize deep love they have for each other. That’s thanks to directing writing and acting. I always felt that all this people have strong appreciation of original work.
So after China abandoned the genre, i felt like it would be cool to see how Korea would treat it.Sadly it was disappointing.
Don’t believe the people who are saying there’s actually love between characters. They’re very obvious friends, everyone who sees more are just those people who’ll see gays everywhere.
It is clearly very straightwashed drama. Chemistry between the actors is mediocre, there’s no tension between them or suggestion that they are special to each other. Yi Heon is just happy that someone noticed his sufferings. Se Kyung being guilty cause of possibility of pushing him to suicide. And his relationship with gangster is purely brotherly. They’re doing things because it is right to do not because they care for each other.
So they no BL.
But thats not the problem. Drama itself is terribly mediocre. The only things that stand out is the bully, his relationship with mc is far more interesting, and Yoon Chan Young is amazing. The villain is ridiculous, the whole gangster part is beyond childish, mothers transformation absurdly rushed and the whole random girl appearing at the end because it’s like 90’s where every male mc need female romantic interest even if she’s useless to the plot.
I bet the rating of this show is so high here because of spiteful people against those “gay representation” comments. Thats why it’s only 8.1 in Imdb. And for the people claiming it’s very successful. It’s mostly successful in countries that are known for liking BL content, like Thailand, it’s nothing in Korea. So it’s successful because of bl fanbase, which is pretty ironic. Especially for people here shitting on BL in the comments.

Arthur chen has huge bias towards him in China since his family are super famous yet very controversial on personal level. Arthur’s literal birth even has been subject in tabloids, he’s not your average celebrity.
As of WYB fans they literally hate everything including Untamed. So their opinion means nothing to me.

Very true. The only people who hate him internationally are WYB fans, due some minor accident happened years ago, they’re truly spiteful. He’s hated in China mostly due to his privilege. He’s son of the one of the most acclaimed chinese directors of all time, who made a movie which is wildly considered the greatest chinese movie. Now he’s behind movies with highest domestic box office. CFY is getting roles in his father’s movies. He’s also handsome. So yeah people are getting mad at him for no reason. The whole scandal of photos is great example of people turning him from victim to offender, just because they dislike him.
I saw him in lighter and princess and honestly he’s born to play mo ran, just like LYX is born to play CW. He’s also emotionally very attached to this drama, kind a like XZ was with untamed.

The opposite also happened. Many people believed WYB was one of the reasons XZ scandal get out of hand. That’s the reason XZ fans were mad at first place. All fandoms have ugly and disgusting sides to them

I remember a few months ago, LYX visited him during set and it became trending weibo. Chinese people were blaming Arthur for this, for some reason (because it’s not good for drama to became trending before the release, they expected for it to be aired quietly). Honestly at this point they just bulling him. Like those photos of him. He dated this girl for a few weeks and then she sold his private photos to paparazzi but he’s the bad guy and the one who should get cancelled…

Never said you said something wrong. You did said if they can’t air they should announce it’s canceled. None of the dramas truly can get canceled. Even ZZH drama was aired after 9 years.
You’re right crew and cast worked hard on it, so they did deserve for it to air, even if it’s going to take years. I just advised people who are tired of waiting to let it go. Since possible it won’t air for another 1 or 2 years. I’m not waiting since 2019 and willing to wait couple of years. You are free to ignore me and my comment.
