That's why I said it's more of an exaggeration and a meme because there are definitely instances where the childhood friend wins even in japanese stories. But in korean medium, it's more noticeable in manhwas because live action dramas announce their main casts so it's not really a mystery who the male/female lead ends up with.
But anyway, this conversation is already quite far from my original comment. I was mainly talking about friends or highschool acquaintances reuniting after a decade when the female lead have recently broken up with her boyfriend and the male lead having a secret crush on her all this time. That specific premise, not exactly just about being childhood friends. Because I swear, the last two dramas I've finished were exactly like this, and the those dramas also have business/corporate themes. But they werent exactly childhood friends like how it is portrayed in this drama.

Nah, definitely applies to korean dramas as well. I can name a few just off the top of my head. Think of a plot point in a drama where a childhood friend appears (sometimes also ex gf) which makes the female lead jealous because of how close she is to the male lead or how much she knows about him. You can probably name a few yourself. Definitely less in chinese dramas though. Chinese writers dont mind a straightforward childhood friend romance.

The childhood friend trope is definitely common. But they tend to be the 2nd lead. In the anime/manga community, this is a meme which even authors and writers are aware about. It's that "the childhood friend nevers wins" but of course that's just an exaggeration for the lols.
That said, Im definitely not new to the childhood friend trope, Im just amazed how the last 3 dramas I've watched share a similar premise.
Lol this is the 3rd drama I've watched in a row where the ML has a secret crush on the FL for more than a decade and he meets the FL again after her relationship failed.
The premise is very similar to "the best day of my life" which was the cdrama I watched before this. Honestly even though premise is cliché, I enjoyed both dramas XD. The pacing is really good. Usually I get bored of cdramas after 20 episodes because the story gets dragged on but this drama didnt feel slow to me. If there's one thing negative I can say about this drama is that, the way they wrote the ML and his crush towards the FL made him a tiny bit creepy. It was more natural in "the best day of my life". But since FL didnt find it creepy I guess it's fine lol. It does align more to his introverted personality. Anyway, sometimes Im in the mood for cute light-hearted dramas with nothing too serious going on and this scratched that itch. Giving this an 8.5
Lol the premise is almost the same as an old anime I watched in the past. Their parents also died in a plane crash and he was left with 3 sisters. But the main difference is, in this drama, the sisters are triplets.
Watched till episode 21 and a little note from me.PWX is played so well by Zhang Ling he who is doing a phenomenal…
THIS! Personally, I think they made PWX character too much of a simp. In dramas like this, you'd want to have a nice balance of push and pull between the couple, but PWX is doing too much "pushing" while LR, 90% of the time, is pulling away. The last conflict was the perfect time for PWX to pull and have LR realize her feelings. I was a bit disappointed it was resolved so quickly...
I see a lot people commenting on FL. It's funny as we have only two episodes out and there is no much information…
Yeah, she was likely saved by Gwi Ju before. Gwi Ju was wearing a uniform in one of the flashbacks. He was either a fire fighter or part of a rescue team.
I don't think its a season 2...i think its a movie
In the manga sequel, Nishikata did become a PE teacher. It's probably the events before the manga sequel where the main characters are already married.
This honestly should have had lesser episodes. The some of the plot points were not necessary. It was obvious the writers ran out of ideas to make the story 24 episodes long. That said, I still enjoyed watching it. I was looking for a cliché light-hearted drama and this is exactly what I got.
> lots of kiss scene > the main characters fell in love relatively early in the story > some weird parts with no music > all the main characters are rich > no evil in-laws > the contract was never made public
Hmmm... the ML is just not it. I wished they casted someone better, short.. miss casting.. 😞Makes you appreciate…
English is the 2nd official language in the Philippines. In a corporate or formal setting, they do this all the time lol. In filipino dramas/movies , scriptwriters do love to put english words and phrases whenever they can XD. Definitely takes some getting used to if you are an english speaker.
I agree with that ML doesnt fit the character. I think he's just not fit for romcom ML in general. I've seen his other dramas, he's better off playing serious roles. That said, Im still enjoying the show overall. Of course nothing beats the original, but this has its own charm as well.
