I’m not a fan of BL, these are just my opinions. 1. If she asks fans to trust her, maybe fans should listen and give her all the supports. Chinese fans go as far as insulting the director and the team just gonna put her in awkward position. 2. The drama you mentioned, I checked and it was from 2019. There was no rightful comparisons here. It looked like a low-budget instant-noodle romance drama. The team was mediocre at best. Most actors and actresses have gone through that stage. It seemed like this was from when she still was not as famous and was still building the name for herself. She’s in a completely different status now. She’s a top actress. The teams and projects she works on now are all high budget and high quality. 3. Someone below mentioned Only for love, as I remember correctly, that drama failed mostly in the excessive filters and bad editing, flashy but lack of substance. We don’t want that to happen to this drama, do we? Yes, antis and bloggers criticized BL, but when have they not? 4. In my personal opinion, as i mentioned in my previous comment, I think the clothing and makeup look simple but very sophisticated. BaiLu is beautiful and soft/simple fits her very well. In the trailer and Reuters, she looks ethereal. 5. The story never says MXY is richer than the king. He’s powerful and has hidden wealth, yes! But he keeps it to himself , avoids the King’s jealousy and just wants to live a low profile life. He doesn’t wear flashy clothes and is known by the public to be “fallen”. He only wears old white clothes until Ye Li comes around. They both loves a simple life, their beauty are always described as “even though dressing in simple attires, he/she is beautiful and regal” 6. This director is all about storytelling. Her dramas might not all be glamorous, but they all are known for great stories. 7. Haters and antis are just gonna hate no matter what. But Bai Lu never complains, puts her head down and works hard. Way more respectable than tons of people who only complains or rely on their faces, imho.
I don’t know the relationship between Bai Lu and her team/company so I can’t comment on that. But maybe fans should just trust her and the director on this one. (As a ChengLei’s fan, I hope I didn’t step on any boundaries 🥺 just wish that everyone appreciated this drama and this opportunity and support their favorite)
🍉 Shadow Love is now no longer on iQiYi’s summer vacation broadcast schedule. (Mostly because the TV broadcast has not been scheduled + to avoid colliding with ChengLei’s other drama that’s scheduled in early August)

This designing team is an award-winning, critically acclaimed team, maybe fans should put more trust in them. Yes, the costumes might not be flattering like other idol dramas, but the fabric and materials look very high quality. The way the fabric’s texture shines and reflects under the light is very beautiful. ChengLei’s fans were also concerned at first, but then one of his fans went researching and compiled the clothing from that era, the team got everything correctly down to the hats and shoes, even the shades of Mo XiuYao’s official ranks were very accurate. Let’s not hold the drama’s quality to the idol drama’s standard, I think this team really focuses on staying as close as possible to historical accuracy, which would appeal more to the general public, not just young fans. About the “reusing clothes” , please don’t believe Chinese bloggers and anti-fans who always find ways to drag down anything in order to instigate fan wars.

To be fair, this drama’s pace is quite normal. Just because most dramas filmed at the same time have been released, hence people start to get impatient. It wrapped on March 20th, 2024. Turned in its first draft and got denied certification around January 2025, plus the supporting cast controversy. The second time applying stated that they aimed for broadcast in June 2025, which was granted certification with reduction from 40 episodes to 36 episodes. This means they have tons of post-productions and editing. No real insider has given a date, only bloggers who can never be trusted. Now that there’s news of Satellite TV broadcast, hopefully the new rumored date (which some insiders have confirmed to be tentatively set) would be true.
Cheng Lei himself said the drama would be aired as scheduled. I do believe that the August 4th date is mostly correct, since it’s said to be aired on Satellite TV, and TV schedules are set in stone, Tencent would not be able to change it.
