But actually I don't read the situation the same way as you. You, as I understand, see Uea not wanting sex with King while sober, I believe it was already pretty clearly indicated Uea wants sex with King. And you understand Uea later regrets about sex with King. But I read Uea is regretting not sticking with his decision to not start things with a player who he maight fall in love with.
So, another take - i don't find anything confusing about the story so far (and I didn't read the novel or original material for this), I did enjoyed it thoroughly and I start to fear that people take fictional world too much like a real world and project themselves and their fears into characters. That is - people who don't write. Fictional world is not what school is supposed to give you - facts based on reality. And I don't have problem reading King is head over heals with Uea, while drinking and being probed he couldn't resist anymore, and I don't have a problem reading that Uea wants King as well but decides not to have a relationship with him - a player who he is not 100 % sure he can trust while while fully conscious and sober, but while in fear,insecure, with lowered inhibitionshe pretty damn sure knows where he can seek shelter - on and instinctual basis.
