Maybe. I would agree that we won't agree on that. Ignoring from family (that you sometimes even have to financially support while you are not allowed to live with them and must pretend you are not who you are) might be worse in the long term than beating from anonymous people or classmates, plus might negatively affect health too, while beating might cause acute danger, damage or death to a person, yes. We would have to ask a boy/man/male what would be worse for him. (And I believe even that would be individual and dependent on experience.) About capsula hotels and working hours in Japan or how society reacts if they find out their children is a gay, or about current politics towards picturing same-sex couples in audiovisuals in China - or how are gay couples presented in, let's say, south korean audiovisuals (most of the time) compared to other asians audiovisuals. These types of informations and documents or things you could pick up on your own not even trying (or wanting) to.
OK, so... why does it so much irk you? I believe you watch unsuitable genre, which is not problem of the series.
