One more thing I must really appreciate. Actors have a particular problem with this, especially when they are so-called established actors. There are these moments where there is nothing prescribed for a character to do, think, or feel. So they are standing there as a person, not as the character. Here, with Guan Yue especially, but really with both actors, we can see that even when he leaves after a hug, in those milliseconds, in those unscripted steps, he is still being the character. Fan Fan’s mind is still running through his eyes and actions.
