His pr machine is overreaching. Not surprising.

I have actually seen him in variety shows and have found him to be a jerk before I saw reports about his racism/misogyny.

The "foundation general" controversy was caused by two things:
1. Excessive makeup
2. Poor acting

Other actors with excessive makeup did not generate as much a stir as ZLH because their acting saved the scenes from being pulled down by the "sissy aesthetics". Do you know who else keep accusing their idol's critics of jealousy? Trump cultists. Their limited brainpower can't grasp the notion that people would be passionate against fraud, racism and misogyny. Thanks so much for this info. Regarding the Interstellar case, I think it's somewhat similar to the SEA racism. Somebody who is eager to exonerate him would choose to ignore the tone of the exchange as "nothing". But using pure logic, one can sense the tone of superiority there. He would not have asked, "Did you understand it" but something like "What did you think of such and such scene?" unless he felt there was a chance the person he was talking to did not understand it. His arrogance stems from superiority complex. It actually ties in with his racism. He thinks some people are inferior.

This is why they remind me so much of Trump cultists. You can never reason with them. Anybody who criticizes Trump is accused of being jealous of him or a "libtard". They don't understand why people would be so against fraud, racism and misogyny. Imagine putting more value on a face than justice, honesty, integrity, equality and decency.

You have totally missed the whole point, which is exactly the point - willful blindness. People didn't believe that trump's corruption mattered in 2016. Look how that NORMALIZATION of corruption is bringing the world to the brink of WWIII ten years after. Likewise, fans who rejoice in the "success" of a drama that got hyped through data manipulation are normalizing the fraud that happened. Not to mention the racism and misogyny of the actor just because of his "handsomeness". Accusing those who are outraged at the NORMALIZATION of fraud, racism and misogyny of jealousy clearly shows willful blindness.

It's annoying to point out cheating? This drama has committed such blatant data manipulation that Chinese state media had to call it out. This mentality of ignoring fraud. racism, misogyny and other forms of moral corruption have led to the election of a morally bankrupt politician to the most powerful position in the world who would rather trigger WWIII than face accountability for his actions. Me too. I would be ashamed of my favorite actor/actress being associated with a drama known for having had viewership data so blatantly inflated that state media called it out. But the fans of this drama have swept aside the data manipulation fraud. Shameless. Or perhaps they don't care, just as they've ignored the lead actor's racism and misogyny.

Funny you'd say "let others tell you what to like". Why do you think Tencent Video and iQiyi dared to inflate POJ views? It's to create buzz, as people tend to "let others tell [them] what to like". Those, like me, who did not get swept up by the hype are the ones who did not let others tell us what to like. Is POJ any better than other cdramas? No, but the hype created by the inflated views piqued people's curiosity. In fact, many people who at first got swayed by the hype but realized it's inferior to other cdramas, expressed great disappointment with its quality or lack thereof. If the makeup in POJ is not excessive, why did many people, not only industry insiders, call it out? It's because of people's outrage that the state intervened.

So you can watch a 40-episode drama but can't be bothered by such things as cheating. Such mentality has caused a seriously corrupt and compulsively lying racist and misogynist to be elected to the most powerful position in the world and might cause a nuclear war. But who cares about nuclear wars when one is enjoying a cdrama.

Regarding the "quality' of the drama, it has become a laughingstock for its unrealistic portrayal of generals. A govt agency had to step in to make sure "foundation generals" don't become a trend.
