Its all just ratings with different criteria. Those are right, but the the most important is the total number…
For official counts, it appears counting clicks is not enough. The viewing duration and continuity (no rewind) are taken into account. There was a cdrama last year that claimed to have had 3.5 billion views, but the 3.5 billion (97 million views per ep) turned out to be clicks. When the viewing duration and continuity were considered, the drama had just over a billion views, still a good score, but it was a third of total clicks.

I thought Datawin and Vlinkage took views and internet popularity into account. Also, what’s the source of 28 m views per day? Some platforms count all clicks regardless of viewing duration while official sources count only views that exceed a certain duration, e.g. 10 minutes, and continuous viewing with no rewind

Actually, Datawin and Vlinkage both are depends on the Weibo(SNS) popularity, So topping their charts is not a…
My understanding is that 85 in VLinkage means explosive, i.e. huge hit, but 80 is minimum to say a drama is a "hit", same as 2.5 in Datawin means a drama is explosive

Geez, judging a person based on how he rates a drama 😁 Not everyone thinks dramas/idols are the be-all and end-all of their existence 😁 I was illustrating how toxic fans turn people off their idols and can affect their careers.

Fans like you are what give your idols a bad name. I was actually partial towards Lusi and was planning to give this drama, that I found to be of excellent quality, at least a 9. 'Wondering now whether I should give in to negativity and give this a 1 just to get back at toxic fans.

Learn to face facts such as that other dramas are topping rating charts like Datawin, Maoyan and Vlinkage, without suspecting stats nerds of ill intent. It’s topping Dengta and Aiman and is still considered as doing very well, so no need to burrow your head in the sand.

Thanks! Interesting info about the evolving workplace mentality in China. I’m glad Chinese youth is prioritizing life-balance instead of obsessing over making money. I’m not really into “idol” dramas, I watch dramas with stories that pique my interest such as this one. Lusi’s acting is impressive.

Eloise_Hime 5 days agoAdditional context for this article explained by my friend Jov (@wonwoncity in twitter)…
Thanks for your explanation. The author of this article did the drama a disservice by giving a misleading title. It’s too bad that there is no option to report articles for being misleading. It’s also too bad that many readers like me don’t have time to find the context of controversial comments. I suppose actors just need to learn to refrain from making such comments. Lusi is still young. She has time and smarts to learn.

Ahh, Zhao Lusi, you committed the #1 mistake of an actor - saying something bad about your own character. I was so excited to watch this drama, eagerly awaiting its Netflix release, until I read this interview. An actor who says anything bad about his drama undermines the drama and makes it a target for criticisms. No wonder this much anticipated drama is being beaten at ratings charts by another drama.

This should serve as a warning to all actors. If you have nothing good to say about your drama/character, keep quiet, unless your character is obviously a villain.

I remember a Korean actor saying his drama was complex and hard to understand and some viewers got discouraged, instead of challenged, by his comment. Subsequently, his drama got severely attacked by haters.

I repeat this warning to all actors - If you have nothing good to say about your drama/character, keep quiet.

I have to agree with another comment that pointed out fan behavior as harmful to kdramas, but for another reason.Mediocre…
This is true for other genres too, like Cdramas. There are too many low quality Cdramas with high scores and high quality Cdramas with low scores. Even the supposedly prestigious Douban scoring site has been poisoned. Who knows, this might have partly caused the current downturn in Chinese Entertainment industry. Viewers who watch highly rated but low quality Cdramas would naturally be disappointed. And they would not try the low rated though high quality CDramas because they'd think if the highly rated dramas are that bad, wouldn't the lower rated ones be worse? In the end, fewer people watch Cdramas, so fewer Cdramas are produced due to lack of investors. And the fans, who caused this problem by overrating their idols' low-quality dramas and downrating high-quality dramas of their idols' rivals, are left with fewer Cdramas to watch or none at all. Karma.

I'm kinda confused why I liked it... I think I found the idea behind it intriguing, the cinematography was beautiful…
Every episode, you can see a change in TE's stance towards LG. First, she thought he was a delusional weirdo. Then when her investigation revealed things about him that checked in with his situation, for example, he is not registered in her world and his horse is not ordinary, her antagonism towards him slowly turned to curiosity. He did not hide the fact that he likes her. When a guy likes a girl and he is genuinely nice to her (and her dad too), that would have a positive effect on her. Their talk in the forest on why she became a policewoman and his challenges about being king is very warm. Their conversations show they're mentally compatible, even when they're bickering. He is probably the first guy she was able to connect with on a cerebral basis. Shin Jae is sweet to her too, but he is not at LG's level of intelligence. When LG left for Corea, I think in ep 3 or 4 (haven't watched this for a year), she missed him. It's not every day you meet a sweet brainiac who appreciates your noble aspirations. TE's heart has been softening towards him even before she went to Corea.

Read my comment well too. I said I was looking for a drama to watch and just happened to see this. I like ZLH's looks and was hoping he'd be a passable actor at least. But I can't stand men, reel or real, who wear their hearts on their sleeves. Don't worry I just dropped the drama.

Douban is as unreliable as any online drama scores like MDL, where scores may be manipulated by either the fans…
It is much more manipulatable than scoring systems that are open only to a select few like Rotten Tomatoes. Why are the businesses of online blackmailers and water armies thriving? It's because they work and one proof is the effect on online drama scores like Douban. Yup, 6.5 is mediocre, but compare it to higher-quality dramas with lower scores like Fireworks of My Heart, The Princess Wei Young, Princess Agents, The Sword and the Brocade and Till The End of the Moon, and it's obvious, Douban scores are unreliable.

I said he got real awards, not only popularity awards, meaning he had both, but the important point is that he did not only get popularity awards but real acting awards too.

Some data are objective and factual. Public online drama scores are mostly subjective and easily manipulated. The only drama scores I find somewhat reliable are Rotten Tomatoes since they are given by Tomatometer-approved critics and publications. All other scores I ignore, that is, I don't rely on them to determine which dramas to watch.

I wasn't aware fans can't watch other actors' dramas. Since you like juvenile "teary-eyed" acting, it makes sense you'd find Xu Kai's restrained acting wooden. I prefer actors who don't show all emotions on their faces, just as in real life, I admire people who have enough self-control and wisdom not to wear their hearts on their sleeves. Xu Kai has garnered real acting awards, not just popularity awards. Check this out: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm10057575/awards/?ref_=nm_awd

We have different taste in acting then. I can't stand "teary-eyed" and puppy-dog performances. I find them sleazy and cheesy. Is there a rule that only fans of actors can watch their dramas? I was on the look-out for another drama to watch and happened to see this so I bit.

I guess we have different taste in acting. I actually feel Xu Kai's acting more. Have you watched The Legends, Story of Yanxi Palace, Arsenal Military Academy and other Xu Kai dramas? He has been winning real acting awards, not just popularity awards. Check this out: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm10057575/awards/?ref_=nm_awd
