I think the romance is here so they can make a part of him vulnerable so the bad guys can use it to make him choose between something in the future. You know - for the drama. But, also, poor Zang Hai has only revenge so he needs some other emotions in his life, he suffered so much. So, I'm torn. I didn't want romance, but now I'm not unhappy with this subplot.

Check the Ming Tombs. Also - the Terracotta Army was actually part of a tomb. So, yeah.

Because having feelings other than revenge will make him vulnerable and distracted.

Ok, I thought I didn’t need and didn’t want romance in this drama but after seeing today’s snippets I want to see what will happen. Zang Hai needs some joy in his life with all the suffering and snakes around him. I’m sure the director and screenwriter have prepared a lot more of the emotional rollercoaster they have us on.

Totally worth it! The best drama I have watched in the last few years. Plot, storyline, delivery, cast, director! The plot is so intense and the drama is shot so well and every single actor gives their best, even the child actors are incredible! And the chemistry between all the characters is top notch. Tbh, if instead of Xiao Zhan there was another actor that can pull the character of Zang Hai as well as Xiao Zhan is doing it, the drama would still be one of the best! But I have to say, he's doing a great job delivering this character - all expressions, emotions, intonations, chemistry - you can see he's giving his best performance.

On the personal POV - this is the first drama that got me into rating and commenting here, usually I stay silent, but it is sooo good!

I wouldn’t say myopic, but extremely focused only on the direct revenge. Let’s not forget that he said it himself - he lives only for the revenge. And beside all the training he’s got, it was all just theory, now he has to deal with practice. And he’s still young. He is in his early twenties when people tend to think they can do anything just with a click. So now he’s learning and growing and I’m sure we’ll see that he will understand it’s not only the straightforward revenge he needs and that it’s not necessary to do it alone. This is already starting ti reveal itself.
