I wanted to love this. I feel like I’m saying that about most dramas lately. Feels like dejavu. Its not awful.…
This drama is about a friends-to-lovers story, where the male lead (ML) has hidden his feelings for the female lead (FL) for a long time. The ML didn’t confess earlier because of his circumstances and probably to preserve their friendship. However, he did try to move on, as evidenced by his relationship with another person during the time the FL was away. When she returned, the ML re-evaluated his feelings, and it made sense for him to express them again. This wasn’t a case of indecisiveness or waiting around for the FL; it was a thoughtful attempt at both moving forward and respecting his emotions.

Regarding the chemistry, some people find it subtle and understated, which may be a deliberate choice to reflect the slow burn and realistic progression of their relationship. Sometimes, friends-to-lovers stories focus on quiet moments of realization rather than intense romantic chemistry right from the start. While it may come off as “flat” to some, others might appreciate this slower, more nuanced development of their bond.

Yes, it may have felt similar to some other dramas initially, but I think over time it really started to focus on its own unique story and characters.

Ultimately, this is a family drama at its core, with a balance of romance, melodrama, and slice-of-life elements.

I saw the comment yesterday , and I agree that Seunghyo might have come across as immature at first, but I think he did have some growth, especially in learning to be more understanding toward Seokryu in certain scenes. His character also mirrored his dad's in some ways, which added a dynamic to his personality. As for the female lead, even though we didn’t see much of her perspective, I felt the show portrayed how their relationship dynamics were different, and they did communicate beyond just the hospital scenes.

That said, I felt like the tension and emotional stakes, particularly during the hospital moments, gave them a chance to realize what they truly meant to each other. I really enjoyed how everything came together in the end, but I understand it might not have landed the same for everyone.

real life embodiment of that horse drawing which starts off great but gets worse with every progressive step
I saw your comment before, but for me, it was the opposite. I don't see how it got worse. In fact, I felt the writing was almost well-done, and most of the characters were well-developed.

The female lead wasn’t foolish; her decisions came from navigating incredibly difficult circumstances. Staying…
Her decision to hide her diagnosis from her parents was meant to protect them from worry, but it was a significant neglect of her health. She should have reached out for support upon her diagnosis. This flaw in her character shows her desire for independence and reluctance to burden her family. Additionally, the male lead never confessed his feelings while she was in the U.S. or before she left, so of course, she wouldn’t recognize her feelings for him. Ultimately, her choices highlight the struggle between wanting to be self-sufficient and the need for care and support.

Indeed, everyone has their flaws, which is why it's essential to understand them.

If I could, I would give it a 0 star for nonsense, it's unbearable to watch unnecessarily long and dragging story.…
The female lead wasn’t foolish; her decisions came from navigating incredibly difficult circumstances. Staying in the U.S. after her cancer diagnosis was her way of focusing on her career and possibly seeking the best treatment, rather than neglecting her health. She didn’t realize the male lead’s feelings because she was overwhelmed with her illness and her relationship with her fiancé. It wasn’t wrong for her to rely on someone she trusted during such a vulnerable time. When she reached out to the male lead, it wasn’t a conscious attempt to confuse or hurt anyone it showed how conflicted she was emotionally.

There is nothing special in this drama, the most ordinary romantic story, all the plot moves are very easy to…
It’s special to me. While it sometimes felt like a movie, I didn’t find the episodes too long. Most K-dramas have similar durations, and this one might be just a few minutes longer. Overall, I see it more as a slice-of-life drama than a romcom, which explains the slower, more reflective pacing.

Maybe it's because I'm a very introverted and calm person but it really annoys me the way the FL keeps beating…
We do have some women who are more introverted in romcoms, like in Extraordinary Attorney Woo. For Seokryu, even though she’s smart, she’s not the calm type, while the male lead is the calm one 🤍.

I haven't commented here for some time now, just finished watching; must say I thoroughly enjoyed every second and replayed the last three episodes especially they're my clear favorites. Such a great performance by the cast, and I'm so happy they took on these roles. They did such a great job playing their characters, and honestly, I can barely think of anyone else playing those characters.

It's all been nothing short of enthralling for me, from the nicely tailored childhood to lovers arc done with such emotion and realism to the ex story that really tugged at my heartstrings. Everything has been spot on, the undeniable chemistry between the leads, the timing of their relationship evolution had me hooked.

I also loved the family stories so much. How Choi Seunghyo's parents became like newly wedded couples touched my heart so much. And the Lavender ladies, wow what a friendship; I hope to have such a lasting friendship. Finally, the mothers removed their ego and kept supporting each other; it was such a valuable moment.

Drawing a parallel to the usual horse chart,, I would say this was well done. Horse chart speaking, this would rate as almost well done in terms of the writing alone because the writing did have its flaws.

I can't belive this drama has the same director and screenwriter as Hometown Cha Cha Cha, it completely falls…
I get where you're coming from, but Love Next Door does have a healing aspect to it, even if it's not as overt as Hometown Cha Cha Cha. The focus on relationships whether romantic, familial, or platonic gives it that warm, healing feel. The way the characters navigate their issues and misunderstandings reflects how messy yet rewarding human connections can be.

The drama shines in its portrayal of growth and reconciliation. Both the leads and side characters go through their own journeys of self-reflection and healing from past hurts. There's something comforting about seeing them come to terms with their emotions and learning to communicate better. It shows that healing isn't always about grand gestures or serene coastal settings sometimes, it's about the everyday conversations, mending old wounds, and opening up to the possibility of love again.
