You make a good point, kinda changed my perspective about her. I remember being a little annoyed with her when the show started but as I saw how he treated her, it made me villainies him more. But now I see that she should not have started off any of this in the guise of love. She did bring it herself and karma did hit her hard. Both are at fault here (hiding the fact that he has a child was a little off putting).
honestly, i just hope they divorce. I like her life thriving with no man. I want him to suffer at least a year for all the suffering he inflicted on her. After that, sure they can get back together and she can get a wedding that she actually deserves, a one with her grandmother present.
I don't agree with Xu Yan's lies in the start, but I can empathise with her circumstances and her love for him and in some way...can justify her actions. BUT, I could never begin to understand him or I would never want to! He disrespected her in every way possible, betrayed her brutally. Man has a CHILD and DIDN'T tell her! I get the tit of tat fiasco that's going on here, but still not an excuse. He can go to any extent to get what he wants huh? That's not right. I'd be disappointed if she gives a second chance. His mistakes are Irredeemable.

In all honesty, I liked her at the start, as I could understand what was coming her way... but not anymore. The script has changed significantly; can she not see that? Good lord! The character writing is flawed in the drama. First time a story where character development is stagnant and getting dumber. She is supposed to be an actress? I mean, she should probably be the first to try to understand a character's depth? That's her job: to question the circumstances of the characters?

I just wanted to share my perspective on your analysis — I actually agree with most of what you said. But I think it’s important to also consider the stages Zhang Hai went through and his nature as a big risk-taker. It felt a bit like a game, with each new arc being a tougher boss level.
Zhang Hai spent a lot of time studying the Marquis and was well-prepared for him. But the moment he discovered there were two more enemies in play, it completely threw him off his game. The next stage with the eunuch was unpredictable, but thanks to his risk-taking nature, he managed to scrape through.
By the time he reached the final villain, things were nearly impossible to control. Especially because one of his closest allies turned out to be the informant feeding information to the final enemy. It left Zhang Hai in a position where he had to rely more on instinct and luck than careful planning — because the final villain could anticipate, and literally see, his every move.
ZH even mentions in one of the episodes that the most dangerous enemy is one hiding in the dark, knowing everything about you, while you know nothing about them. And despite countless obstacles, he still managed to figure out who the third villain was. In that sense, I feel the story closed all its loops well. It’s a very realistic approach too — not everything in life can be perfectly planned. Sometimes you need a bit of luck along with bold risks.
