It’s not explained very well (presumably because episode count dropped from 30 to 23). It’s either: (a) Nanfeng treated it as a fling but Yan was too serious; or (b) Yan flirted with other girls (he’s a player) and Nanfeng didn’t like it.
Someone mentioned in the novel both of them are kind of players and not into serious relationships (also, the storyline of him knowing her during childhood wasn’t in the book).

Sounds like drama creators made the script a lot more like a typical drama (with typical tropes/cliches).

Shan Shan and Dai Duo are such a sweet couple. They truly are the second leads as opposed to Nan Feng and Yan.

Sometimes (well, oftentimes!), drama writers/creators make very puzzling choices that seem highly illogical or clearly questionable. I think with a little bit of polish, the script could have been improved and make more sense. And, oh, proposal on the big screen at the end? How? What? Why? 🙄

Being an engineer doesn’t preclude him from doing some research or publishing papers. But in the show he’s shown doing more practical tasks (location, drones, self-driving, etc.). I suspect on Baidu he would be working on algorithms for determining location or something related to the operations of the whole Baidu system. But that’s not super clear in this drama as opposed to You Are My Glory where ML had a pretty well-defined main project (even though he had helped with a couple of other things along the way).

At-will employment principle in the US makes it much simpler to fire people (with some exceptions, of course). But, as you mentioned, even in such situations it may be preferable to have an employee quit on their own.

There are only two episodes left so it’s possible Evil Grandma may become Less Evil Grandma. Although, everyone on MDL would rather see Grandma have an encounter with a white truck 😉

They cannot fire FL without a good reason (that was explained in first episodes when ML was trying to get rid of her). Otherwise, FL can file a complaint or sue them. So they gave her that low-level job hoping she would leave on her own. This is similar to how in Japan some companies do not give you any work to do, move you to somewhere where no one can interact with you, and hope you quit on your own due to boredom.

If Gradma doesn’t want to have a meeting with a white truck, she should retire to Hawaii or something.

I really like You Are My Glory! Alsp watched it before FOMH with about 20-25 dramas in between them. In terms of emoji, I’d say the pair in Glory is like the pair in Love Scout — 🩷 🩷🩷. And FOMH leads are more like leads in When My Phone Rings — ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Someone had mentioned that they don’t end up together in the novel. But they’ve changed some things from the novel for the drama so I guess we will see.

I like Janice Wu but “Skate Into Love” was a bit too overly cliched idol drama (I gave it 8/10). The best skating drama is Beyond (with Teresa Li) but it’s more realistic in nature (at the end of each episode there are clips of interviews with current & former skaters and coaches). It shows how insanely hard it is to get to the top and the bad things that can happen along the way (mental issues and even doping).

“When I Fly Towards You” is very light (same author as The First Frost and Hidden Love). “The Best Thing” and “You Are My Lover Friend” are mostly light (esp. the latter).

OMG, can we please have a full-length anime based on the cartoon at the end of episode 15? 🤣
