Thanks MDL community! I clicked on this show (without reading up about it first) because I loooooved Sawamura Rei in Happy of the End, but since I didn't do my homework, I wasn't prepared for the extreme difference in the tone of the two shows. I even went so far as to think "how could a guy go from such a dark, intense show --- one that would actually challenge an actor's skills --- to THIS?!" I had already wandered off to a different show when it occurred to me to check what y'all are saying in the comments, and all the love you were giving it made me decide to give it another go. I would have missed out on all the fun if I didn't!
This show gets roasted all the time for being cliché and dumb. And honestly, fair. On the surface it looks like…
Most insightful comment for this series that I've come across so far. And the funny thing is that I actually LIVED this drama --- or at least the first 3 episodes that we've seen so far. There were some differences, of course. All 4 of us were straight, none were siblings, and we were no longer in school (fresh out of university). But the rest of this mess, right down to doing it with 2 other people in the room --- yeah, I lived it. Not gonna say which of the 4 I was ("awful, frustrating idiot" right here, although i've lived to regret and repent...). The point is that I agree with you, the series might be messy, but it's a very realistic depiction of some (obviously not all) relationship dynamics that transcend cultures and generations.
And I guess that's why I'm still watching it. No, I did not enjoy Bad Guy My Boss (in fact, I almost stayed away from this series because of that experience). No, so far, I'm not a particular fan of the acting, the writing, etc. But knowing that this chaotic mess happens in real life makes me wonder how the series will turn out. Since I already got on this ride (yes, I watched because I came across your comment), I might as well see where it goes...
Bonuses in Shortime are valid for 7 days from the time that they are received.
I’m glad I was able to help, and I ABSOLUTELY agree with you! I know Shortime wants to earn revenue (of course!) by encouraging people to subscribe, but I feel like making it easier to enjoy their shows for free (at least initially) might make people more willing to avail of a paid subscription later on.
Shortime offers users the opportunity to participate in a survey in return for a bonus. Haven’t taken it myself, but I plan to do so sometime soon, and will likely give that feedback if there’s an opportunity to do so in the survey proper. Maybe if enough of us say the same thing, they might make changes. 😉
At the moment, I am busy thanking the heavens that you wrote this review. I just finished watching The Best Story, and my eyes are still quite puffy. Thinking back, I now find it quite funny how I was desperately scrambling for closure a few hours ago by searching for a season 2, an article explaining the ending, ANYTHING that would make me feel a little better about what I had just watched. I didn’t realize that I only had to go to the reviews in MDL to find it. Thank you for helping me calm down. 😅
