if situling’s actions make you uncomfortable that you feel stressed out to the point you want to skip is actually a testament of him acting his role well. villains can be relatable/pitiable like muqibai, and just driven to evil/madness like situling. it makes the drama more rich with different characters. and it serves the purpose of getting the message across to people to not copy him. all good, right

i think if you understand basic xianxia tropes it would be easy to understand. but i agree that it is quite deep and you’ll find that it closes the loop at the end

i heard the source material novel was even more angsty and had longer heartbreak. the scriptwriters actually simplified it and made it more logical for drama watchers. i think it boils down to each characters’ motivations; MY trying to protect her identity whilst being gaslit by her “mom” all the time, and JBZ trying to get sincere love when he’s never had it all his life, literally everyone has hidden agendas towards him (except for xun bobo and buxiu). yes i agree communication is key and would definitely will shorten the drama down if that happens hahaha but we want to see the push and pull of love, do we not?

JBZ & MY grew up in abusive environments. he had never experienced sincere love, literally everyone around him took advantage of him, even MY first came to him with hidden motives. so that’s what he wanted, and also said in ep28 right, he wanted a sincere love. he doesn’t want her to love him because he saved her. he wants to be loved for who he is.
but anyways yes i agree if he had communicated then the story would be over hahaa. it’s okay a little angst is good cardio exercise lol 😂.

i think that’s sort of the theme right, all of these characters (and i mean all) have tragic backstories, but it’s more of like the conscious moral choice of being good and principled rather than resorting to evil ways. also the other message is when you have power you can choose to abuse it or do good.
