I checked the official drama page and it confirms that Rui’s role is a supporting role, while ZRN is definitely just a guest. So I don’t think there are actually two timelines esp since it’s only 12 eps.

Ok, I just read the synopsis on wb and the plot feels really cinematic and high-quality. It’s intriguing, centered around uncovering the truth behind yani’s daughter’s death. ZRN is definitely just a guest role, so her appearances will probably be brief, mainly tied to the events around her death. But Rui is definitely not a guest, his role plays a major part and seems deeply involved in the mystery surrounding ZRN death.

I can’t wait to see his duality in this drama. His role reminded me of Siwan in unlocked, the switch from an innocent to a creepy personality is chilling and I know Rui will slay it👌
