10/10? Questionable. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely.
This is one of those dramas I've wanted to watch since the trailer came out. I was so interested that I even renewed my Youku subscription just to watch all the episodes. So yes, I definitely came into this drama with expectations. 😂And after finishing it, would I say it's a perfect drama?
Probably not.
There are honestly a lot of things that are questionable. The storyline isn't exactly the most sophisticated, the setting isn't anything extraordinary, and there are definitely moments where I had to sit there and think, "Okay... we're really doing this?"😂
But here's the thing: I don't really care.
I picked this drama as my entertainment space, and it did exactly what I wanted it to do.
It made me laugh.
Sometimes I'm not looking for a drama with an amazing storyline, incredible world-building, or performances that make me rethink life itself. Sometimes I just want to open my laptop, watch Ao Ruipeng being Ao Ruipeng, laugh at whatever nonsense is happening on screen, and forget about my stress for a while.
And Pull Strings gave me that.
So maybe my 10/10 isn't a rating for every single element of the drama. It's more like a rating for how much I enjoyed watching it.
Was everything good? No.
Was everything logical? Absolutely not. 😂
Did I have a good time? Yes. And that's enough for me.
Sometimes a drama doesn't need to be fancy to become one of your favorites. Sometimes it just needs to make you laugh at the right moment when you really need it.
For me, Pull Strings was exactly that kind of drama.

Just watch it. Especially for Tian Jia Rui.
Honestly, I don't have that much to say about this drama. And maybe that's actually a good thing, because I don't feel like I need to dissect every part of it to explain why I enjoyed it. It's simply worth your time.
Of course, Jia Bing is good. He's a good actor, he's famous for a reason, and... honestly, what else am I supposed to say? 😂
But the actor who really caught my attention here is Tian Jia Rui
I've watched three of his dramas before, and what's interesting is that I didn't actually watch those dramas because of him. He just happened to be in them. But every time I saw him, I kept noticing his acting more and more.
And then I watched him in this drama.
Yeah... this guy deserves attention.
The character he portrays here is something else. It's not even just about whether his acting is technically good. There's something about the way he delivers the character's emotions that is really difficult for me to describe.
There are moments where I was just sitting there thinking, "How is he doing that?"
The emotion, the expressions, the way he carries the character... there's a certain feeling in his performance that genuinely got to me. It freaked me out a little, honestly, because it was that good. 😂
So yes, I recommend this drama.
Not only because of the story, or because it's entertaining, or because it can make you laugh.
The acting is the most valuable thing this drama gave me.
And for me, Tian Jia Rui is the one who made it worth talking about.
I went into this drama watching a story.
I came out of it paying attention to an actor.

A slow burn that made me emotionally attached without forcing it
I started watching MO LI / The First Jasmine mainly because the leads are two of my favorites, Cheng Lei and Bai Lu. Cheng Lei's acting is remarkable, while Bai Lu has this emotional quality in her acting that somehow reaches you without needing to do too much.So naturally, I expected a lot from this drama.
And surprisingly, it did give me the emotional attachment I was looking for, just not in the way I expected. It happened slowly and deeply.
What I really love about this drama is the way the characters grow even while they're together. Even though this is a romance, their entire character development isn't built around the relationship. They still have their own struggles, their own personalities, and their own growth.
They're not strong simply because they have each other. They're strong as individuals, and I really appreciate that.
Bai Lu's portrayal of her character is probably one of the things that stayed with me the most. There were moments when she portrayed Qing Shuang around her, especially through the trauma and delusions, that genuinely gave me goosebumps. The way she carried those scenes made the character's emotional state feel much more complicated than simply "she's traumatized."
Cheng Lei was also a big reason I enjoyed the drama. His acting gave the character a presence that made me want to keep watching.
The one thing I wasn't completely satisfied with was the villain.
I think the character has the ingredients of a villain. He doesn't see love or life in the same way as the main leads, and some of his ideas are so unreasonable that, logically, I should be completely against him. For me, a villain really feels like a villain when they stand completely against what the main characters believe in, especially when their idea of love or life is so twisted that you can't help but think, "What the hell are you talking about?" 😂
And this villain definitely has some of that.
But somehow... I couldn't feel enough hatred toward him.
It's not that his acting is bad. I actually think he did a good job portraying the character. I just didn't feel that emotional anger in my heart that I usually want from a villain. Maybe it's the writing, maybe it's the way the character was developed, or maybe, and this is the most embarrassing possibility, I'm just biased because he's too handsome. 😂
So I'm not entirely sure whether that's an acting problem or a story problem. I'll leave that one to someone more objective than me.
But here's the funniest thing about this review.
While writing it, I actually had to check whether I had really finished the drama or not.
That's probably saying something about how I felt about the ending. 😂
Still, I really enjoyed the character development, the acting, and especially the slower emotional build. This is the kind of romance I appreciate more because the characters don't completely disappear into their relationship.
They have each other, but they also have themselves.
And honestly, I think that's what made me emotionally attached to them in the first place.

Sometimes the dramas you underestimate surprise you the most
I honestly didn't have this drama on my list at first. The cast wasn't familiar to me, so I didn't have much expectation going into it.But this drama reminded me that sometimes having no expectations can be a good thing. You might end up discovering a really good story, or even finding a new favorite character along the way.
The storyline is genuinely good, and for me, that's the biggest reason to watch it. The acting is also better than I expected. The cast may not be names that immediately catch your attention, but they clearly have the ability and experience to carry a story.
I actually think they are the kind of actors who could go much further with the right opportunities. There's enough talent here to make me want to see more of their work. So if you're someone who usually chooses dramas based on familiar actors, I would say give this one a chance.
Definitely worth watching.

The hook made me watch, but the emotional investment didn't make me stay
The hook made me watch, but the emotional investment didn't make me stayThis is actually my first drama review here, even though I've watched quite a lot of dramas before. I usually just finish them and move on without writing anything. But this one made me want to write a review because I have mixed feelings about it.
First of all, I think this drama has a genuinely good storyline. The acting is good, the characters make sacrifices, and there is definitely character development along the way. The beginning especially has a really strong hook.
I mean, where else can you find the ML and FL already married in the first episode, except in a short drama? 😂 It really has that short-drama-style hook that immediately makes you want to know what happens next.
And that's what kept me watching at first.
But as I watched more episodes, I realized something: the hook made me want to watch, but the emotional investment didn't make me stay.
There are things happening in the story that should feel meaningful. The characters go through struggles, make sacrifices, and change because of what happens to them. I can understand why those moments are important to the story, but somehow, I didn't feel emotionally connected to them as much as I expected.
It's not that the drama has no emotional moments. It's more that the emotional depth between me and the drama never really had the chance to build.
As the story continued, there were also quite a few episodes where I felt like the characters were just running here and there without the story moving forward enough. Some episodes were worth watching over and over, while others honestly felt like something I could skip and still understand the story.
So, overall, I do think this is a good story, and I would still recommend it if the premise interests you. Just don't put your entire soul into watching it. 😂
For me, it was a drama that made me curious enough to continue, but not emotionally attached enough to make me deeply invested.
And maybe that's why, despite all the good things it has, I finished it feeling a little less satisfied than I thought I would.

I Don’t Even Know How to Explain It, Just Watch It
There’s something really heartwarming about Road to Splendor. The storyline, the plot, and especially the acting all impressed me more than I expected.I actually took a break from watching it because it was still ongoing at the time, and somehow ended up finishing it a month or so later. Maybe because I watched a lot of it in a marathon, there were moments when I felt a little bored or overwhelmed. There was just so much happening and so many things packed together that I sometimes needed a break from it.
But even with that, I still think the story and the acting are absolutely worth watching. There’s something about the way the characters and their journey are portrayed that makes the whole drama feel genuinely warm and memorable.
I honestly don’t know how to explain it better without getting into too much detail. Just watch it. That’s probably the best review I can give.
