Love story in slow mo

I was excited to watch this show given the high ratings. Overall, I really liked the storyline and the actors were all very good and professional. Not to mention the two ML being really, really hot. I also liked Zao Jin Mai the FL as she is cute and very talented. However, somehow I felt that the chemistry between the FL and ML were a bit off, especially in the last episode, the airport scene was really cringeworthy with ML/FL acting truly awkward towards each other plus all their "colleagues" weirdly standing around and watching them in silence. What was that? I was also not fan of the boring family scenes at the end as the whole thing looked pretty fake and the leads looked somewhat uncomfortable acting as Mom and Dad probably because being at a young age they are not that experienced with the kiddie, family type of situation.
yet. That's just my observation. Otherwise I really enjoyed the show and thank the whole crew for their fantastic job.

Too much and too long conflict between FL&ML to be enjoyable plus the highly unlikeable FL

I am not impressed with this series. I felt the chemistry was way off between the FL and ML, or to be precise, there was none. The FL actress' lack of emotional depth and flat, mostly sour faced expression and bland performance has totally ruined the supposed love and chemistry between the lead characters. And to save the lack of chemistry Chen Fei Yu has been over acting, way above what a normal love relationship would look like in real life. Hence, this whole "love affair" is far from believable, i.e. a gorgeous, smart, talented, kind, from a privileged background ML falls head over heels for a very plain looking, no personality or talent, stubborn, cold, hateful and mean, materialistic, playing hard to get poor girl. Seriously? Totally unrealistic . All the supposed love scenes look like the actors are just reading off the script, no warmth, or any kind of chemistry. Maybe if they cast a more likeable actress as the FL, at least the romance would have been more believable. Perfect example of wrong casting ruinning a perfectly good story. The second FL / ML romance and chemistry was much better and more believable. And what's with all these career obsessed, hard core aggressive young female characters lacking any feminity or compassion and warmth? I hope young women in real life are not taken in by the b.s. of "career above everything else" as the highly competitive "Profit above integrity" business motto actually doesn't care much about young people or their dreams, profit is the only king.

Underwhelming

Easy watch, pretty bland. Storyline is not bad and the potential was there to make it into an exciting romance, story but they missed and the story flatlined. I didn't feel much chemistry between neither the first couple ML/FL nor the second couple ML/FL. Actually the second couple was a bit more interesting and funny, however on the romance part, there were visible signs of avoidance of kissing by the actors and you could tell that there was absolutely no physical attraction between the characters. First couple also seemed to lack real chemistry and in fact they were more awkward with each other than anything else. Maybe a better pairing of actors would have made the "love" story more believable. And the final 3 episodes..OMG ..I have never seen a more boring, mundane ending of a supposed double couple romance story. Pretty disappointing.

Entertaining

It's a good/entertaining storyline and like most costume C dramas it has pretty much everything, i.e. court intrigue, politics, excellent fighting scenes, scheming bad guys, good guys winning, love and attraction between beautiful male and female leads, wedding, happy ending. It's not a completely unique storyline but I was entertained. However, at times I was a little bit confused as most of the "elders/parents" actors all look a like and hard to distinguish whom are who. Same with the plots, too confusing because of the similarities of the characters and their looks. In any case, great job crew! Thanks for the great entertainment.

Great production

I watched this show because one of my favorite actors Liu Xue Yi. He is a gorgeous, very talented versatile actor and I wasn't disappointed with how he portrayed his character in this drama. The female lead Ju Jing Yi is also a very beautiful talented actress although I found her character portrayal a bit bland and the chemistry between ML/FL lukewarm at best. I actually found the original Yang CaWe character more interesting and more of a natural beauty. Too bad she didn't get much screen time. I also really loved Li Ge Yang, an upcoming young talent. Overall, the storyline was very interesting and entertaining if you can overlook a few inconsistencies here and there. Beautiful music, great customes and fantastic photography, scenery. Loved it and highly recommend it. Thanks for the great entertainment

Entertaining

Overall, it's a good storyline that keeps your attention. I loved the characters and the chemistry between the ML/FL/2ML. Beautiful, talented actors and not too many annoying characters which is typical in most C dramas, i.e. whining, super annoying childlike females ( only a few in this drama). The plot is interesting and original up to a point, at which time it becomes too repetitive, namely, every episode is about chasing, killing, torturing the FL over and over again. It gets really boring. Also, how did a modern " military" girl got all the ancient Marshal art skills to perfection in an instant when she took over the body of a girl who was weak and timid? Ok, we get the qin music part as the " host" was a good player.
Overall, it's a good show and entertaining. I recommend this drama, have already watched it twice (second time fast forwarded the repetitive scenes)

Nonsense

Just watched this older series and regretted it. Total nonsense. I have never seen a more annoying FL character. Big mouth, low class, rude, no manners, no class, delusional dishonest. Very, very unlikable character. The ML supposed to be a smart detective but can't figure out the deceit and lies right in front of him?? Very childish, naive storyline. Waste of time to watch this show, I only watched it halfway through because the ML (Wallace ) is one of my favorite actors but couldn't take much more of the FL character so had to stop. Don't waste your time on this.

Happy, feel good, must watch

I absolutely loved this series. It begins as a simple love story which I loved, loved, especially with the insane chemistry between the ML/FL lead. Then the storyline gets even better with unexpected twists and acts. This series has pretty much everything, love, romance, bit of sadness, comedy, love of family, loyalty and friendships. I loved the whole crew/characters, aunties, grannies, school friends, and of course the beautiful male and female lead and their slowly evolving love for each other. Thank you for the great entertainment and giving us, viewers a happy, feel good time. Thank you all. I will definitely rewatch this many times in the future

Correct casting is the most important aspect of movie making

I am on episode 26 and not sure if I can hold out much longer. Storyline is interesting, unusual, I love almost all of the great cast/actors, except for the FL who/whom is totally ruining the whole show for me on two levels:
1. As a character in this drama , who is immorally, obsessively stalking a man who is engaged and is in a relationship ( no matter that his fiance is a total nightmare of a person). At this point in his life , in the present, It's his life to decide. I totally despise women who go to extremes to snatch a guy no matter what the consequences are. Morally wrong. She is not only ruining other people's lives but selfishly also destroys the career and life of the man she supposedly loves.
2. I don't really like Tiffany Tang as her acting range is very limited ( have seen many of her other movies) In every single one of her other dramas she has one face expression, which is a ridiculous, phony, superficial " I am sooo happy all the time..." smile, that ruins the dramas she is in. Extremely unlikeable, annoying person/actor. Honestly, in this drama, I am hoping that the ML dumps her and finds some else not so phony. Even the "romantic" scenes are cringe worthy with her fake smiles and clinginess. Love the other characters/ great actors and storyline so will finish the drama if I can take more of the fakeness of the FL. Casting is really the most important aspect of movie making that can make or break the movie no matter how great everything else is. I am surprised at C dramas that don't understand this ( there are plenty out there).

Very mediocre

I love, love C dramas and have watched hundreds but this genre is not my cup of tea. It starts nice enough about kids growing up together in a very nice, supportive community. That jumps to a little bug eyed girl being obsessed with one of the visiting kids who moved away and now grown up. He is a hot, very handsome, math genius who is very popular in school. The FL lead hasn't seemed to age and still looks like the same bug eyed little girl. Casting is totally off as there is absolutely no chemistry between the ML/FL whatsoever. Plus the fact that the FL is totally obsessed with the ML and stalks him from the beginning. Don't really want to watch more of this mismatched pair. This is just my opinion, others may love this genre.

Fantastic story

I honestly don't understand the low ratings for this Drama. This is one of the best historical dramas of 2025. The storyline is engaging, very creative and unique. It maybe a little bit dark and violent but that is consistent with the Republican era of savage wars between various warlords at the time . Also, some people commented on "incest" being a turn off to them, but in actuality, they were NOT blood relatives so I don't think incest applies here at all. The actors are very talented and gorgeous. Fantastic chemistry between FL and ML and Dai Gao Zheng's shirtless scenes are scorching hot. The music, set designs and wardrobe are sooo beautiful. You can tell that many very talented people worked hard to create such a wonderful experience for us. Thank you.

Fantastic C Drama

I love this C drama. Actually, this is the second time I have watched this and I still love it and will probably watch it again. The storyline is very interesting and refreshing. Actors are all very professional and the chemistry between the ML and FL are off the charts not to mention they are both incredibly gorgeous. Side stories were also very interesting and the couples, characters well suited. Music costumes, set designs and photography is first class and very enjoyable. The only thing I wasn't fully satisfied with is the ending. The choice of the ML and FL both ending up at the Lawless Trade post is a given and understandable. However, I actually didn't get that they had twins and was a bit confused about why are they talking about two kids only a year later. It would have been nice to either see the FL beautiful and very pregnant or see the two babies already born and the ML's expression of seeing them the first time. This would have rounded up the love story very nicely instead of the FL coldly discussing the twin's separation. That wasn't cool! Which is why I took off a star from my review.

This is a wonderful, and undeservingly underrated series. It's definitely worth watching it

I absolutely loved this series. It's perfect in every way which I can say with outmost confidence having watched my large share of trainwrecks of costume C dramas. I loved everything about this series. beautiful and very, very talented cast, fantastic fight scenes, beautiful scenery and exquisite wardrobe and music. I loved the positive vibe of this show and the friendships of the characters. Ding Yu Xi besides being gorgeous, is a very, very talented actor and his facial acting/expressions are priceless. I also love Victoria Song and her character acting in this show. I think the chemistry between the ML and FL was just perfect and they really looked great together. I don't understand why some people would have a problem with the actors' age difference when in fact they were fantastically compatible in every way. Many thanks for the crew and cast for this wonderful series. Bravo!

Wonderfully Refreshing

I really liked this series for many reasons. I am a huge fan of Wallace Huo, he is not only gorgeous but he is also an excellent, very talented actor. He basically carries this whole show and his portrayal of the quirky, eccentric character is spot on and his sarcastic remarks were hilariously funny., I was laughing out loud a lot during the show. I also really love Zhu Zhu, a beautiful very talented actress and I think she was perfectly cast as the FL. The ML and FL chemistry were really awesome, loved the mental, sarcastic bickerings between them, perfectly match.ed couple.
The supporting actors were also perfect and the whole circle of friends had a wonderful chemistry/vibe among them. I especially loved the pug, what a cute dog (I want one now!). The scenes between the ML and the FL lead's father were hilariously funny as well.
This is a well written, well directed and well acted wonderful series. The music was beautiful and perfectly chosen for each scene. Thank you for this wonderful storyline and experience!! Bravo to the whole production team!!
