beautiful sad love story
What a beautiful love story. I have been watching tons of C dramas and can only remember a few of them. This story is definitely one that I will remember. I just wish the end wasn't so very, very sad but beautiful nevertheless. I try only to watch stories with happy endings and forgot to check this one before I started to watch. Won't be rewatching it again as there is already enough sadness in this world, but this story will stay with me for sure. Loved the actors, great job. Music/songs are also beautiful and memorable.Thank you for this beautiful, albeit sad drama.

Unrealistic
It's an ok entertainment if you ignore all logic and become dumb while watching this show. I am not sure why but it seems to be a common theme in some C dramas for women to pretend to be a man and supposedly nobody notices? Seriously? This drama storyline is an example where the FL joins the army as a man and everybody seems to be blind and believe it, even though she is obviously a woman. Her behavior is going between a tough talking "solder" and a silly, nagging, giggling female and still nobody notices? Not to mention the fight scenes where a small female is throwing around huge, strong male warriors, totally ridiculous and fully unbelievable!Positive, I loved the music/songs, the period customs were beautiful. The acting was pretty good, especially the side characters. I would not watch this C drama again. Totally unrealistic, boring, waste of time.

Confusing to say the least
I love C dramas from the 1920 era, except, this one. Customs/wardrobes are gorgeous, loved the music but that's about it. Cast are young and beautiful but it appears that high schoolers were leading the armies, controlling the cities and overall in control of the whole political system., according to this movie. How ridiculous! When will script writers and the casting agents understand that casting actors too young for specific roles brings all stories down to look like a highschool play, none takes it seriously. There are plenty of gorgeous, talented age appropriate actors for these roles that would actually enhance the production quality and bring/give these stories credibility. Other stuff, my one word for the FL part is ridiculous. She is a good actor but her role and character is ridiculous. The storyline is also confusing, going back and forth in timeline, then the FL going from naive to dumb and vicious, back to dumb again, vicious again...seriously? She is portrayed as a feme fatale without much redeaming qualities, pretty but not a beauty queen, in one scene she is a fighter then the next scene she becomes a rabbit and shudders in fear honestly... Also, ML supposedly an army man, let's himself being stabbed over and over again by the FL. Then, in one scene when a grenade is thrown into the room, he is just standing there looking instead of jumping out to safety.. seriously? And the ending.....OMG how dumb can it be? Yes, very, very dumb.. ML was killed right in front of FL and yet ..here he is, just came back for more kissing.. please, for the sake of your viewers, just replace your highschool level screenwriters with actual talents.I would not watch this series again, barely hung on only to see the end.

Refreshingly creative
I loved, loved this show. Refreshingly creative and very funny. Loved the actors and the young, happy vibes, creative, positive energy of this C drama. It had lots of funny scenes, like when the FL begins the snowboarding lessons ( reminded me of myself when I started learning skiing). I was laughing out loud throughout the movie, very funny/hilarious scenes. I also loved the cartoonish characters at the end of each episode, extremely creative. The scenery/photography was superb and the music perfect for the scenes. I also really liked the customs, stylish, latest styles. This is one of the best C dramas I have seen, perfect to cheer you up and put you in a sunny/happy mood. Bravo!!! Thank you for giving us this fantastic entertainment. Definitely a 10 rewatch value. Was this review helpful to you?
Good watch
I really liked this C drama. Interesting story, great chemistry between ML/FL, Both are gorgeous and talented actors. Supporting actors are also great and likeable. Villains are just that, but not too many. Overall, good and interesting entertainment with a happy ending. Thank you for the great experience. Was this review helpful to you?
Great show
I absolutely loved this show. This is my second time watching this and I am keeping it on my watch list for future watch. Before this, just watched The Princess's Gambit also with Liu Xue Yi ( one of my favorite actors) and that show being such a downer/ depressing, I needed something happy and actually romantic so I am rewatching this show. I love the ML/FL chemistry, really liked the storyline and all the actors. Maybe a little bit too much time spent on the sideline relationships but overall it's a great show! Thank you all of you for making this wonderful entertainment. Was this review helpful to you?

Slow and boring with the FL acting like a little girl
I started watching this series because Bi Wen Jun is one of my favorite actors and all of his performances are great. Very talented young actor. However, now I simply can't continue watching the terrible acting of the FL. She may have misunderstood her character in this drama and instead of portraying an interesting, smart, fairly strong but soft at the same time character, someone who is a worthwhile partner to Han Zeng,,'s character. Instead, she is portraying a baby speaking, nagging, clingy, fake cutsie little girl character. So we are supposed to believe that this infantile girl is actually working as a constable and is a crime solving genius. Seriously?? I continued to episode 17, this very slow drama with too much boring dialogue and repeated themes over and over thinking that the director/writers may realize how awful the FL acting is and try to remedy it by giving her a character growth like the ML had. But no....I jumped ahead to the 34 episode to see if there were any changes in the FL acting/character/behavior, but unfortunately same little girl act. So at this point I can't spend more of my time on her bad acting and are dropping this show. Honestly, at this point I don't even care who the murderer is. I just feel sorry for Bi Wen Jun wasting his talent as he deserves a better FL who is not bringing the show down. I also really liked He Rui Xian and Yang Shi Ze roles and acting. Both are very talented young actors. Was this review helpful to you?

Sad/gloomy storyline but worth watching
I am not particularly fond of this kind of sad, depressing, gloomy dramas as life is already hard enough most of the time. I usually watch happy ending easy to watch fantasy or custom pieces with lots of romance. However, Mark Chao is my most favorite actor ( ever since Eternal Love) and I love to see. anything he plays in. He is a very versatile, highly talented, extremely handsome, likeable actor and his acting skills didn't disappoint in this drama. I also really liked Zhang Zi Feng' s portrayal of the FL character. She is a wonderfully talented young actress with a very bright future in the industry. All the supporting actors were also really great and talented. As for the overall storyline, it was a bit too sad and gloomy for me. The ML and FL sour, gloomy, sad faces throughout the whole drama was pretty depressing and a huge downer for me. The whole mood throughout the story was sad with hopeless characters and had an overall doomed feeling. Like I said, it's definitely not my type of drama but it's a masterpiece for serious drama lovers. Great production, great work! Was this review helpful to you?

One of the best modern rom coms I have seen
Actually, this is my third time watching this show and I still love it. In fact, pretty sure I will watch it again. Overall, I think it's a great romance story with two of my very favorite actors, Bai Lu and Dylan Wang. They are both very likeable and talented young actors, not to mention the off the chart chemistry as FL/ML in this rom com. I also liked all the other male and female characters/couples. Pretty much all of the actors and actresses are very talented and gorgeous to look at. The storyline in entertaining, not overly complicated and very relaxing, enjoyable with a happy ending. The music/songs are wonderful and very catchy. In fact, the main song I liked a lot and kept playing in my head way after I finished the drama. The wardrobe/outfits were also extraordinarily stylish and unique. This is a very well done production that has everything, beautiful talented cast, fantastic chemistry between the ML and FL character ( as it should be in a great rom com) beautiful clothes and wonderful catchy songs/music.Highly recommend it to all romance lovers. Oh yeah..I would really love to see future dramas/ collaboration between Bai Lu and Dylan Wang as FL/ML, a period/costume piece would be fun.

What a wonderful movie
I loved, loved this movie. One of the best coming of age stories I have ever seen. Beautiful, intelligent storytelling with wonderful, talented young actors. Chen Fei Yu is not only gorgeous but also an insanely talented young actor. I suppose it helps to have a famous director dad and talented actress as mom, so Chen Fei Yu' s enormous talent maybe partially due to DNA but one can also tell that he is an extremely hard working actor who is only relying on himself and hard work to perfect his acting skills. As for the FL, this is the first time I have seen He Lan Dou and like her a lot. She is also a very talented young actress whose talent is not relying on appearance ( like many other actresses in the entertainment industry) but on her great skills. This was an excellent casting as the ML/FL have really made this story very real and memorable. Thanks to the whole crew and actors for making this great movie. Was this review helpful to you?

Slow, disjointed and quite depressing
I tried watching this C drama because of my favorite actors Chen Xing Xu and Dilraba Dilmurat. It was a disappointment at the start as I barely recognized Dilraba Dilmurat, in fact if her name wasn't on the casting list, I would not have recognized her at all. Is it just me or something happened to her face? She looks extremely skinny and appears that she may have had some work done on her face that resulted in a somewhat unnatural look that kind of froze her face not allowing any emotions to show. What a shame as she was one of the best young talent/actress around. As for the movie, the storyline is not very original, somewhat familiar, pretty close to the movie the "Alien" Also the directorial style seems to resemble quite a lot of M Night Shyamalan's directing style, dark, mysterious, spooky in slow motion, disjointed scenes etc. however, this one, really didn't hit the right effect for the audience. The cast was really good, playing their part well but it was really hard to imagine a rag tag bunch of people as heroic, talented hunters with ancient fighting skills and teachings. Most of the action scenes were truly amateurish, disorganized and boring.
I really, really loved the soundtrack and music as well as the beautiful scenery/photography. However, I honestly can't continue watching this slow mo, depressing, disjointed movie. Some of the scenes that meant to look "artsy" unfortunately came out as plain boring instead. Sorry, I had high hopes for this movie but won't be putting it on my watchlist.

Boring Nonsense
I must say I started watching this C drama because of the awesome cast. I love Jeremy Tsui as he is a very prolific actor, very talented and likeable. In this drama, I barely recognized Tsui and loved his cute, young, lovable character. Usually, most of his later roles are of older characters, especially his period/costume drama roles which I also love. I also like Yang Shuo as he is a very, very talented seasoned actor who is also incredibly attractive and his dimples are swoon worthy. I was not overly impressed with FL as her acting skills are very one dimensional and she has no face acting skills. Her face looked like a robot without expression and perpetually mad, cold, depressed or just simply unhappy throughout the show.Good stuff:
-Great clothes/wardrobe designs although some of the outfits looked like they were trying too hard
,- Scenery, photography excellent
- beautiful and talented actors,/cast
Not so good stuff
- the most ridiculous, Qi Lei's character having a plastic surgery so none, (even his girlfriend) recognizes him??? Seriously?? So, along with the face reconstruction surgery, apparently his voice has also changed, the shape of his face's bone structure changed ( as the young version had a much larger face with a square jawline) he acquired two beautiful dimples, his body shape, height has changed, his mannerisms, smile and teeth seemed to have ALL became unrecognizable even to his closest friends and to his lover?? What a bunch of hogwash! Apparently, whoever wrote this scrip forgot to check with a plastic surgeon as to what is actually possible!! This nonsense made me drop the whole series.
-furthermore, there is absolutely no romance at all, only argument after argument with the FL's vile temper and viscious competition/characters
- Too much "industry" boardroom talk, arguments over monies, very boring
Really too bad as the show had wonderful, talented cast and the storyline could have been interesting and believable minus the nonsense and ridiculous spy side stories.

Disappointing /unlikeable FL
I totally dislike the FL lead and her character. Not into liars and dishonest people in general. Gorgeous ML, too bad they gave him a character without spine, someone who will forgive anything just because the FL looks like someone he knew before but that someone is no longer the lovely, honest person she was before.Hope to see the ML in better dramas.

Worst FL ever
I started watching this show because one of my favorite actors Xiao Zhan but I honestly can't continue to watch any longer. FL Yang Zi is one of the most annoying, unlikeable actresses I can think of. Especially in this role as a FL, terrible acting, whining, spoiled, ignorant character with no redeeming qualities. I hope Xiao Zhan will get a better FL in his. next drama. The other actors/cast are fantastic professionals, especially Zhai ZiLu, very talented young actor. However, a bad lead actor/actress (FL in this case) can bring down even the best of shows. I am definitely dropping this drama. Was this review helpful to you?

Bizarre...Love to see a remake with age appropriate cast
I have been saving this C Drama in my watchlist for awhile now as I have seen the high ratings and finally have the time to check it out. I don't have a problem with long 70+ episodes dramas and also love some older productions, if it's a good drama, I will watch it no matter how long it is. So.. The drama started with an interesting storyline, sad but interesting, and I was especially excited and looking forward to the young ML/FL story development. And what followed was sooo . Bizarre that I am still wondering what happened. Namely, you see the young men and young/kids, ladies sitting in a school and reciting some poems and in the next take..ready for this... ? In the same school there are these older, middle aged men in their 40s and ladies in their 30' s sitting in the seats, it's like the story travelled 30 years into the future? How do you go from the kids/students aged between 8 - 14 to age 40 or so and still in school at that age? Then they keep saying " young master this and young master that". Like they are trying to hypnotize the audience to believing that these guys are in their youth/20's... and at a marieagble age which according to history, in ancient China, girls start at 15-16 up to mid twenties and men in their 20' ( definitely not in their 40's). So how did we jump the huge age gap in time? Also, bizarre age discrepancies like 5th Miss aged to 30 something and yet, her mother's concubines' age appearance stayed the same. Or the ML father appears to be almost the same age as his son? What are the casting agents and directors were thinking? Did they not read the original story/ book? The actors are great and very professional but maybe not for a role that calls for 20 some years old men and very young women. Sorry. I just simply can't watch 70+episodes forcing my brain to imagine the cast being the age that they are supposed to be and not even close to being in this drama . A+ for effort and I would really like to watch this story if it was ever remade with the age appropriate cast. I am sure the original story writer would agree. I have also noticed that in some C dramas the actors' ages are reversed, namely teenagers are playing roles that calls for a more mature cast and that makes the drama look like a highschool play, or as in this case, middle aged man/women are playing 20 somethings role. What is that about? Was this review helpful to you?
