A Great Makjang - Not for Everyone Though
I should preface this by saying that I am a huge JYB fan and follow all of her projects. Our Movie was so outstanding and cinematic that I obviously couldn't help but expect the same kind of quality for Ms. Incognito. I can't say I'm disappointed, but at the same I found myself scratching my head and going "huh?" at several points in the drama.
My biggest grievance is the writing. This had soooo much potential, but there were just too many plotholes, unimaginative red herrings, and just overall lack of coherence. I understand it's a makjang, but I don't think a story with its elements tied together properly is too much to ask.
I also think the pacing is strange. Don't get me wrong , I enjoyed and laughed a lot at the Muchang episodes, but those scenes were just stretched a bit too long that it started to feel slow. Then when the crime/thriller scenes hit again, they're done too fast and too furious that I feel like some major expositions were rushed and thus felt underdeveloped.
Also, kamdong-nim, you said 40% romance!!! But there weren't enough romantic scenes between YR and DM to enjoy. And it was just too bad because I really adored their chemistry sooo much and despaired when the kissing scene was too short!!!! Come on, we deserve more romance!
The best parts of the drama though are the direction and performances. All the actors came to WORK. I really regret there weren't too many bitch-off scenes between YR and SY because every time they appear together, the suspense and tension is so fricking delicious!!!
Also, JJY-sshi, don't listen to the haters. I loved your character, I love your acting, and I love you now too. Will look forward to your next work.
And my Yeobeen, what else can I say about your performance? You're the kind of actor that people write about and study in film schools. Apart from that, you seem so genuinely kind and fun to be around. Even though I can't give this drama a perfect 10, I have enjoyed every episode and am so happy about the hype and recognition it's getting. It's all well deserved.
