Not the Epic War I Expected, but a Worthy Watch

Feud, starring Bai Lu and Joseph Zeng, was my first-ever wuxia or fantasy drama and overall, I think it’s a pretty solid drama. I wouldn’t say I absolutely loved it, but I also wouldn’t call it bad. It was okay.

To be honest, I came in expecting an epic story about wars between cities or kingdoms. But it turned out that the main focus of the plot is actually their marriage. The drama mostly revolves around their broken relationship and all the misunderstandings between them. So if you’re hoping for large scale battles, that’s not really what this drama is about.

That said, I still think it’s a good drama. Bai Lu plays a strong, intelligent woman, a little cunning at times, but in a way that makes sense. Her actions are driven by revenge, but also by a desire to open the male lead’s eyes to his mistakes. Meanwhile, Joseph Zeng also gives a great performance. His character truly wants to fix their marriage and doesn’t give up on chasing after his ex-wife, which is touching in its own way.

I think Feud is a good pick if you enjoy fantasy settings, though I personally find it hard to review fantasy dramas in general. Would I rewatch it? Probably not, because the plot feels like it goes in circles at times, and the pacing can get a little frustrating. But overall, it’s still a good drama with strong performances and beautiful visuals.
