The movie did not match the expectations set by the trailer < I still loved it, but I do agree that the trailer…
About the trailer, I agree with you. I think they REALLY wanted a lot of eyes on the show which is why they added those parts, unfortunately, it backfired a bit coz it did show some of the best parts - and to me, set the wrong expectations
In regards to the lack of communication, you're right, preferences do differ a lot. Personally, I get incredibly frustrated when characters don't talk to each other. So much could be fixed (and a whole lot of shows would be much shorter) if they simply talked
Ming wasn't aware he loves Joe... and this mf Fan Xiao knows, but still choose to hurt our baby Shu Lang.
Here's how I see it.... Fan Xiao's doesn't know what love is. We can see this in that 1. The only person to ever love him was his mother, but she died, and we all know how that messed him up 2. I think that FX's definition of love is to own something. He already has a very skewed view of the world, thanks to his upbringing and also those that he surrounds himself with. He's also young, hot, and stupid rich. He likely has never wanted for company or love.
But now, the ONE time he loves something (someone), they don't want him back. Despite all that he is and his words, this person doesn't care or bend backwards to accommodate him (i.e., go back to him). So, in his messed-up head, he needs to own Shu Lang. To cage him if you will. If he does that, Shu Lang will never go away. Will never leave him. He is like a (really mean) child who likes a toy and would rather break that toy than share it or have it taken away
At this point in their journey, Fan Xiao still doesn't know not only how to love but also how to love Shu Lang. That, coupled with his really messed-up view of the world, is what makes him act the way he does.
I haven't read the book, so idk what happens next, but I cannot wait to see how he changes
After ep 10, I only have 3 thoughts. They are as follows 1. Mother.... Help. I am scared😭😭
2. When I watched 'My Stand In', I thought that Ming was the utter scum of the earth. Then I met ep 10 Fan Xiao. I would now like to state that I was wrong. Ming is, in fact, an absolute saint. Angel wings and everything
3. Watching Yu Shu Lang in ep 10, specifically at the bridge while he was speaking to Fan Xiao, made me feel how I felt way back when I watched 'Strangers from Hell'. I remember the feelings of my heart in my throat and this overwhelming combination of anger and helplessness as I watched Yun Jong U start to really spiral from the psychological ish that they were putting him through. Now to think that Fan Xiao made me feel the same coz of all the ish that he's currently putting Shu Lang through.... Aiyaiyai🙆🏾♀️🙆🏾♀️🙆🏾♀️
I agree with what you said. I guess this is one of the downsides of watching shows from other cultures. A lot…
"I don't see the benefit of waiting because I have seen myself doing that and figured that does not get me anywhere"
Go ahead and clock me why don't you😭😭. I'm definitely getting off my 🍑 now. Procrastinating truly gets me nowhere. Plus I need to brag to people that I know an extra language😅
Good luck to both of us since I too will be self teaching

Oooh, I remember when translator notes were a thing. Not only were they so insightful, but they were also kinda funny sometimes, helping you understand and enjoy the show even more.
Today, streaming services only care about churning out as much content as possible, so translators do the bare minimum. I do sometimes watch fan translated versions of these shows and the difference in subtitles in overwhelming. I find myself having a better understanding of shows I'd already seen thanks to fan subs
PS. I'm jealous you know an Asian language. I've wanted to learn but I'm so indecisive. I'm torn between Japanese, Mandarin & Korean
Tee Yai - Agreed that there is lack of insight to his decisions making process. I suspect that might have to do…
I agree with what you said. I guess this is one of the downsides of watching shows from other cultures. A lot falls through the cracks/is lost in translation as we the 'foreign audience' are not familiar with cultural norms - and in this specific case, legends from the culture/country. And these things are rarely explained as the people making these shows, do not make them for or with foreigners in mind

Also, wow, you're out here inspiring me - and lowkey telling me to get off my behind and get to learning. Are you self teaching Thai or....?
