It's not about them wanting dong man to live a life thats pleasing to them... I feel like this isn't a good excuse for the facts that she said in the comment earlier. Dong-Mans friends can fully get how crappy he must feel after not being able to succeed for 20yrs. they keep him around out of loyalty and bc they all struggled together at somepoint. It's just the attitude he has, downgrading others who worked hard and where in his shoes at one point too, doing everything to succeed. He is dimming their light just because his timeline is different from theirs. Even if what dong-man is saying might not be meant for them but self-talk in a way...it's just disrespectful to fellow Directors who where up and coming Screenwirters like him at some point. I fully get why they don't want to be around him...they feel sorry for him but it feels like he could be a person who doesn't like to take advice or listen to others. He is a very interesting and highly misunderstood person but somethings are just not okay especially regularly behaving like that at parties to celebrate his friends success.
