Engaging from start to finish!
I do love a good crime story that grabs your attention and keeps you there until the end. this was a great story with enough variables to kept your mind fully engaged as it unfolded. The writer did an amazing job of weaving the each character’s story to the bottom line plot - to prove CDH’s father’s innocence.
Lee JunHo was Choi Da Hyeon -PERIOD- so well played. His reserved, distrustful personality is not surprising given CDH’s history, his mom missing from his life (not known when she died), battling heart disease all his life, receiving a new heart at the same time of his father’s incarceration. the story doesn’t tell us, but prior to his father’s demise, we can surmise CDH had a healthy support system that fueled his honorability. I like that this was a quest-for-truth plot versus a revenge plot. thanks to his honorable nature, CDH never wavered from that quest.
Enter the other people in his life, Yu-ri, Miss Jin, and of course Ki Chun Ho (KCH) - each brings their own story to the table, enriching the story further. All are important to his quest for truth but ultimately to CDH himself. The story of the heart transplant itself is touching, if not heart wrenching, to see how it’s depth affected Miss Jin, Yu Ri, CDH as well as CDH’s father.
Yoo Jae Myung as KCH brought the necessary fiery passion of an idealistic detective who’s straightforward approach to truth and justice was a perfect compliment to CDH’s character. without the two types it wouldn’t have been as great a bromance.
Were it not for the very well, diversely played villains, there wouldn’t be a story, right?
this is not a negative, but we never really saw the depth of the very real physical issues CDH had as a transplant patient/survivor except for when KCH pushed him and the scene where CDH is gasping for breath trying to keep up with KCH on that steep climb up the hill. I think some additional moments seeing CDH handle his obvious vulnerability would have brought additional depth to his character.
Confession is a well executed, well paced KDrama, that left us with a satisfying (not rushed) ending. congrats to all cast and crew!
I believe if one of the major streaming platforms, like Prime or Netflix, picked this drama up, it would get the true recognition it deserves as it rivals any American or British crime drama. while I’m happy to have found it on TUBI, the plethora of commercials every 8 minutes was excruciating. Three commercial breaks per episode would be more viewer friendly.
