I would highly recommend this because it will dispel the points you mentioned that make you hesitant when a show only has a one lead. It has a very captivating main plot which individual case reveals a little part of it, and the supporting cast are all getting developed along the way and their backstory all tie back to the main plot. I’m on ep9 and it’s really good story telling. I also want to say that Luoyunxi is the star of the show for a reason, he carries every scene but also elevates eveyone around him. Finally, there are some fantasy elements to this show but it’s grounded, the cases are all solved with logic not magic

Guys I’m on ep 8 and this is so good!! every character is getting more story behind them, and I love how everything is connected to the main plot. I’m at the edge of my seat! I thought it was a pure detective/case show like BoJian, but it’s got great cases and a very intriguing main plot line.

Thanks for giving it a try! I do prefer more realism when it comes to detective genres too, so I thought the same when I watched the first ep, but then when the first case wrapped (ep4) I realized that it’s still all very grounded in true human nature. The fantasy elements are more a stylistic choices imo

No it’s more stylistically spooky and eerie than horror. Most of the time, its light hearted

Yeah it’s true if you see him in a still picture there might be similarities, but as soon as he starts talking it all feels different. Personality wise Lisi is close to Tanglici, both are highly intelligent characters, but with Luoyunxi’s portrayal you can tell one is more quick-witted and clever, while the other is more of a master strategist who’s always several steps ahead.

That’s too bad, I get that this show isn’t for everyone. If you are here for LYX and you are only on the first few episodes, I’d say keep watching because the first few episodes spends more time setting up the world and the supporting characters. Once LYX’s gets more proactive in this world ( starting ep 4/5) you will see the show gets better and better. As a LYX fan for many years, I would say this is his best role yet.

Please check out the group variety show!! It’s so funny and everyone just seems like an extension of their on screen characters!

Agreed Flourished Peony definitely did better, but I just did a quick check and I saw that FP had a day with 84mm views on MaoYan. Not even sure if it is the highest day on MaoYan for FP. So WoF’s 68M doesn’t seem impossible. Also both FP and WoF were expected to be way above average shows on MgTv, they were supposed to bring up the average viewership for the platform. FP did that very well, WoF so far less so but still pretty good, I hope reaches more people in the future.
