Xia Xiao Man was only a partial reason to him not wanting the project. He wasn't making up an excuse, he repeatedly tells people that what he build is a home and what the client wants didn't align with his design. He did tell Xia Xiao Man that he was willing to begrudgingly work with the client but the client constantly Harassing Xia Xiao Man is what broke the camel's back. Yes he does, majority of the time they are shown in Yu Yu's office but Lin Sa has her own business that handles different Designers, Yu Yu is just her Go to Man when she has clients that are difficult for other designers to handle or wouldn't take.

Honestly, with his mediocre skills, he shouldn't have lasted that long in the industry, Yu Yu just likes him and probably pities him becauyhe knows Shen Wu wouldn't last as an apprentice to other designers ,He has been honest with Shen wu and actually praised him several times which actually makes me hate episode 9 alot more because it doesn't align with Lin Sa and Shen wu's previous actions.
