how is Gu Qian Fan infinitely handsome with the roguish scruffy look in the early episodes? I wish he could look…
Not my visual type but idk why I'm drawn to him lmao and even in nothing gold can stay where is half bald 🤣🤣even I'm shocked at myself and also his voice I like hearing it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rewatching The Qin Empire because I have no dramas to watch now that Against the Current ended 😭
Im watching dream of splendor and thinking of watching new life begins which I put on hold till ep 6🤧also watched nothing gold can stay upto 13 but decided to put on hold cuz my free time is almost over and it has many episodes
I remember seeing so many comments on Instagram when the trailer or promotional clips were out, with people saying liu xueyi's acting is still bad and criticizing him. At that time, I had already watched him in a few different dramas without even knowing his name, and I always liked his acting.
But after watching him in Against the Current, I genuinely hope those people have nothing left to say now. 😂 And honestly, it’s fine even if they still don’t, because he did SO well in this drama from beginning to end.
He played so many different sides of his character, and I could understand every single emotion through his expressions. His micro-expressions, his eyes, his little smiles and those dimples lol ,everything conveyed something.
When he was still the young master, before marrying Lanxiang, I could see his demeanor so clearly — his love and respect for his family, his gentle and softer side, especially the way he was around Lanxiang. And then when it came to his enemies, you could see that ruthlessness come through completely.
I never felt like he was just trying to show an emotion. I could actually understand what his character was feeling just by looking at him. His eyes especially did so much.
And the fact that he had to portray so many different stages and sides of the character throughout the story and still make each one feel believable, he genuinely did an amazing job.
Against the Current honestly made me appreciate his acting so much more. I’m just glad I finally watched him in a role where I could really see what he was capable of. He was SO good.
Gosh, I don’t even know how to explain this feeling but i already know about this one ever since I started watching kdramas lol ,I just finished the series a little while ago and I was completely fine for the first few minutes, but now the emptiness is slowly hitting me. 😮💨
It genuinely feels like I watched someone’s entire lifetime unfold in front of me. I know it’s fiction, but after spending so much time with these characters—watching them grow, struggle, love, lose, change, and find their way,it somehow feels like I actually lived through a part of their lives with them.
And now it’s just… over. 🥹 That world I had been visiting every day suddenly isn’t there anymore, and I already know this empty feeling is going to last for a while.
Some dramas you finish and move on from. Others feel like saying goodbye to people you’ve known for a long time. This one definitely feels like the latter. 😭💙
Such a great series. I’m genuinely so glad I came across it. ❤️
I’ve learned so many things from this drama and gained so many different insights. Some of them were things I already knew or believed in, but seeing them portrayed through different people, relationships, and situations somehow made those lessons feel even more real and firm in my mind.
I have a whole bunch of screenshots of the sayings, dialogues, and little pieces of wisdom that stood out to me. I know I’ll come back to them from time to time, because some things you watch are simply entertaining, while others stay with you long after the story ends.
This one is definitely going to stay with me,not just in my memories, but in my heart and soul. ❤️ Will miss everyone 💐🤧
Through this drama, I’ve encountered so many different kinds of mindsets and perspectives. Of course, people are different that’s nothing surprising but seeing such a wide range of personalities, ways of thinking, and especially the different kinds of relationships people can have with one another really made me think.
It’s hard to put into words, but it feels like this drama showed me so many different ways people can understand, misunderstand, care for, hurt, support, and ultimately connect with each other. Every relationship has its own dynamics, and I love how the drama allowed me to see so many different versions of human connection.
Never thought I’d witness this level of character growth from Xiuwan. 🥹 The way she and Xie Zhao kept missing each other because of circumstances, only to finally meet when the time was right, when they had both grown into better versions of themselves, versions they could genuinely be proud of,was so beautiful. It made their meeting feel all the more meaningful. ❤️
Random but I know that "lan" in lanxiang means orchid there's also lan in jialan as well I wonder if they mean the same thing because I saw somewhere that the chinese title of this series mean or is the "orchid fragrance fate"?
Episode 41: What was that commotion at Marquis's house? They seem to be fighting and pushing, and Marquis is asking…
It's because they had decided, or mutually agreed with the Lin family, that the family property would be divided equally among the four daughters in exchange for accepting the concubine.
Love so many people around lanxiang got inspired by her and learned so many things especially yuchan how she didn't belittle herself and knew her worth
My favourite character, Xiuru, did not disappoint me at all. I’m so proud of her. 🥹 Even though everything she went through was incredibly painful, she remained clear-headed. Like Jinqi said, she already had the courage to seek a better marriage for herself, however things eventually turned out. She was never someone who would lose herself in love, and I really admire that about her.
Since the Marquis decided to give up first, whatever his reason or filial piety may have been, she eventually chose to let go as well. As she said, rather than continuing to suffer day after day, it was better to end it quickly.
And I especially loved how she said she would remain a virtuous wife for the sake of her daughters like indirectly told marquis not to expect anything more than that . That really showed how strong and clear-minded she was, even in such a painful situation. She may have been hurting, but she never lost herself. ❤️
Since it’s currently one episode a day, I decided to wait until a good number of episodes are released before getting back into it. Meanwhile, I finished Story of Yanxi Palace in just 3 days and absolutely loved it . Before that, I watched The Legend of Shen Li, which I also thoroughly enjoyed.
So honestly, I’m quite content with my C-drama life right now 😂. But the problem is… my standards for a good series have SKYROCKETED. And then I watched Against the Current from episodes 37–41, and somehow my standards got raised even higher. At this point, I genuinely don’t even know what my standards are anymore 😭.
Like, how am I supposed to go back to ordinary dramas after watching so many genuinely great series back-to-back? I feel like I’ve been completely spoiled at this point.
That yuan? Eunuch was creepy as hell since that place where workers wash commodes ,i really avoided watching his face in the later episodes and also for the first time hop I won't remember his face ever later lmao
Never thought I’d complete another 70+ episode C-drama in one go after The Story of Minglan, but here we are . I genuinely enjoyed this drama from episode 1 all the way to the end. The harem fights were nowhere near as annoying as I thought they would be, so that was definitely a plus. What I especially loved was that the story gave so much depth to its characters even the minor ones. Everyone had their own story, and the character arcs were genuinely amazing. The entire cast acted so well, and so many things turned out differently from what I expected, but in the best way. Fuheng 😭 LORD, this character. His love for her was so selfless and endless. And Empress Fuca—definitely one of my favourite empress characters. I could literally feel her kindness and warmth through the screen, even though… 😭. The Fuca siblings were also so well-raised; you could really see the values they were brought up with. After episode 64/65, I honestly thought the drama might start feeling boring because I assumed the story had already reached its peak, but somehow it kept exceeding my expectations all the way to the end. Overall, such a great watch. I’m honestly so glad I stuck with it. 🥹 P.S. After watching The Legend of Shen Li, I watched Lost You Forever and was literally struggling to get through each episode 😭. Then I tried a few others and started thinking I had entered a C-drama slump, but nope this one pulled me right out of it lol. 😂
Just from seeing the poster, I could already sense the love-triangle chaos, so I deliberately avoided this drama for months. Then, because of all the ratings and recommendations I kept seeing here and there, I finally decided to give it a try. Lord, I genuinely wonder how people even watched this while it was airing. 😭
I already know I dislike love triangles, but this one isn’t even a triangle it’s a whole tangled web. Somehow I’ve made it to episode 34, barely making my way through it step by step. At this point, I don’t even know if I’ll watch Season 2. 😂
The funny thing is, I could already sense the endgame as early as episode 2, and that was the pairing I started rooting for and have continued rooting for all the way to episode 34. Until recently, I also felt like the FL’s feelings and the way she interacted with the three male leads were pretty distinguishable to me. I was clear about what she felt for each of them, even if the dynamics themselves were complicated.
But after episode 31… LOL. One of them is still pretty clear to me, but the FL’s feelings toward another one of the two suddenly started feeling much more ambiguous. I can sense a slight change in her feelings, or at least in the way she interacts with him, and now I’m questioning things again.
And that’s what’s making me nervous because it’s not even just about whether my endgame actually happens anymore. I’ve been rooting for that pairing since episode 2, but I’m not sure how satisfied I’ll be with it if the FL’s feelings toward the other one have genuinely shifted in the way I’m sensing. Even if my endgame “wins,” I’m not sure I’ll necessarily like how we get there.
So here I am at episode 34, still rooting for the same person I picked from episode 2, but suddenly confused about the emotional dynamics all over again. This drama is such a headache. 😂
And honestly, my biggest mistake was watching this right after The Legend of Shen Li, which I thoroughly loved from beginning to end. The contrast is sending me. 😭
