News Life Finds Eternity Among the Stars
WEIRDO-101 is a first-love story, but what stayed with me most was Niran learning how to live with the hurt left by his parents’ divorce.
He wanted his mother, his father, and himself to remain a family. His mother’s happiness cannot simply erase that wish. I struggled with her telling him that he always comes first, especially after brushing aside his news that he has a boyfriend with “I’ll hear about that later.” To me, her words and actions did not quite match.
Niran’s ability to stand beside her at her wedding belongs to him. He has worked through his pain; that does not mean everything that hurt him has been resolved. Cheewa’s presence gives him the reassurance of being deeply important to someone, and I found that quietly moving.
I also appreciated Niran taking a year to reconsider his future. Rediscovering his love of judo makes his next step feel like his own choice. He and Cheewa can move forward together while pursuing their individual interests.
Their romance is sweet, but it is the place they gradually make for each other in their lives that makes it meaningful.
Cheewa speaks of gravity drawing them together. I like to think of it as fate: among countless stars, they found each other.
Cheewa means “life,” and Niran means “eternity.” Life looked up at the universe and found eternity. That is the feeling this lovely series left with me.
