PSA: Just because you don't like a character doesn't mean they're poorly written. It's kinda sad to me that whenever…
this is so true. I feel like this is a problem unique to cdramas where people get upset when their faves are playing a more complex character than just a perfect male lead.
after episode 6 I want to ask: are they gonna get married soon so they can climb the social ladder together?
i'm pretty sure they just fake an engagement for a long time until they fall in love. they only got married in the novel after arriving at the capital and meeting the fl's mom again.
I'm up to ep 6. The main FL is pissing me off. Are we supposed to be sympathetic to her plight? Raised with a…
I think you can also view it as she’s determined to get what she wants, but she also thinks that she’s doing what’s best for him. the official route is the only way she knows and she is trying to clear his name as well. but since he’s a smuggler, he’s also not used to doing things that way and just wants to avoid attention. she’s dragging him into the spotlight, and he is fighting back for the time being, but her determination is what ultimately catapultes him to power later on.
episode 6: a lot of praise for fty’s determination on xhs. she refuses to back down and wants to climb back up, and zl just can’t understand why she keeps getting him into more chaos. even so, she chooses to clear his name and rise up together.
his reaction was so real when he found out the envoy was from the royal family though. just a normal person’s reaction haha, not wanting to be involved.
why does everyone think he has a different identity? he’s just zhao ling, he’s an orphan with some family…
I get that but this is one of those cases. I read the novel long ago but I believe the fl uses her socialite knowledge to get him a military position and he rises to power as a general, but he truly is a commoner.
the fu family is very wasteful, i guess rich things 🤷♀️ , like why make snow out of salt? when all other…
agree, but the reason is they’re on the decline so they’re desperate to make madam yu like them so they bet all their money on making an extravagant show so that she’d pick tingyun as her daughter in law
No one thinks it as ml centered drama. People thought it's a balanced drama with both leads are highlighted.
I don’t think “no one” is accurate since there definitely were a few people who did, but if you don’t, that’s great! and I’d say it’s pretty well balanced for the first 4 episodes since it’s just setting up how they met.
all these comments, please watch this behind where the director deng ke literally says in the first moment that the road to splendor is an ensemble drama with a diverse cast. it is not an ml centered drama, it is a story and growth driven plot, so if you’re watching for the screen time, just watch his contents on sns instead of critiquing the show: http://xhslink.cn/o/2hdq25UIT9
Btw these comments are misleading. They're exaggerating and making it look like the ml was nothing but background…
literally. even though the first few episodes took place at the fl’s family manor, he was still very present and involved? he even had fight scenes. it feels like they’re upset that the fl got screen time at all. I felt like it was pretty balanced right now and will prob become way more male centric as it progresses to appease these fans.
his reaction was so real when he found out the envoy was from the royal family though. just a normal person’s reaction haha, not wanting to be involved.
