I really loved when they reunited and the following 2 or 3 episodes where they worked together alongside the slowly building dread of the change but then they separated again without communicating and it left me annoyed and frustrated. Haixia was already out for so many episodes and then he got on a bus again. I also really disliked the bandit leader so her plotline was very uninteresting to me.
And mystic nine are about the same group: Zhang Qishan and his fellow leaders. You met some of them here in this show already. Like fo ye i.e, Zhang Qishan, the diviner and antique collector guy 8th master, the guy who played go with haixia 9th master, the guy who fought hailou 6th master. The story of these nine people is what's explored in mystic nine 1 &2. The timeline is mostly the same with maybe around 3 year gap between the two. But it took 10 years for that sequel to come out.
I really liked this drama, allthough I believe the first 10 episodes were the best and it went slightly downhill…

That's not what I meant, I meant that he will be appreciated regardless. He's famous for making the most out of whatever low ip, low budget, or poor script works he got and giving high ROI. Even if the dramas didn't do well in terms of mainstream traffic, he was never the issue. His performance was always praised by critics. Instead of saying he isn't being trusted with easy ip I'd say he's being trusted to carry niche and risky projects that might not have much of a future without him. He doesn't chase after fame or screentime and gives it his all to even the smallest roles and these last 2 characters of his have been really different and he performed exceptionally well. Be it zhang haixia or zhao ling.

Good thing DYX seems more into being a character actor than a shallow traffic chaser then. Big data alone isn't everything, the crew knew what they were making and took the risk anyway to see if strong plot and unusual character writing can decide a shows success over relying on intense cp romance and cool badass invincible scenes. He will be fine regardless.
